Experience Casual Elegance at 1931 in Cincinnati's Historic Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel

Tucked away in downtown Cincinnati's iconic Hilton Netherland Plaza, the 1931 invites you to dine in sophisticated style. This art deco jewel evokes the glamour of a bygone era with its soaring painted ceilings, marble columns, and Rookwood pottery. While the setting transports you back in time, the cuisine is decidedly modern, with American fare and creative cocktails.

The versatile menu features breakfast classics like fluffy pancakes and savory eggs benedict. Lunch brings soups, salads, and sandwiches, while dinner tempts with dishes like Citrus-Glazed Salmon, Peppercorn-crusted Ribeye, and Pappardelle & Braised Beef Short Rib Ragout.

Whether you're seeking breakfast, lunch, or romantic dinner, the 1931 excellent service ensures a memorable experience. Its proximity to the convention center, theatres, and stadiums is also a convenient pre-event spot for a bite and cocktails.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
1931 offers a stunning art deco setting that enchants visitors. Guests appreciate the "fantastic food" and "excellent service" from standout servers. While some diners reminisce about its former glory as Orchids, the ambiance and live music continue to impress. However, service inconsistencies and buffet value are noted areas for improvement.

Our food was served cold and the sliders were very dry.

We went to check out the brunch this morning. As soon as we sat down with some food the fire alarm went off and we were asked to leave the restaurant. So when we returned to start eating we put the plates of food we had before the alarm to the side since it was cold. The server never picked them up until we finished our next plate and put those on top of the cold and old food. The server was more interested in helping a large group and even apologized to them for the inconvenience never even talked to us. We were not staying at the hotel so I guess we were not important. The cost of the brunch was $42.00 per person for that price we excepted to have a chef making omelets and waffles. Their was a meat table with prime rib and pork loin that was already sliced and cold even with old heat lamps on it. There were the usuall breakfast items such as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links and biscuit with gravy. The shrimp and grits looked like it was reheated from the last night dinner service not used. Also they did not have pancakes or french toast available on the buffet, which at this price point we expected. The fruit and muffins were Ok, what you would except at a hotel restaurant. We went there to see if we would bring our family there for brunch some day. We enjoy brunch but would not waste our money there again. Our favorite brunch restaurant cost is a lot lower and has the head chef making omelets and hand craving the prime rib. They have the same breakfast items plus several more dishes including pasta, fish, roasted and fried chicken. Also we were very disappointed there we no desserts at this so called brunch. Don't go there it was a waste of money and the service was very poor.

The grazing board was divine. Really good pimento cheese spread and fresh meats. The salad is enormous so plan accordingly. The Amish chicken was very good. Broccolini was scrumptious. Mashed potatoes were full of flavor. Cocktail menu could use some non whisky options. My husband had an old fashioned which he enjoyed but felt it was a bit overpriced. Our service was great!

The setting was spectacular. There was a pianist and then a small jazz band playing, which added to the atmosphere. The servers were not trained in the way they should be for a restaurant with these prices. Plates were removed before all diners were finished. Food came to the table cold.

I'm sure they will be great once they get things worked out. Our appetizers were great and the cocktails were outstanding. Our main course was fantastic in concept, but the delivered dish wasn't quite the same as what was on the menu. The scallops were very good, but not quite great. Our server was a delightful young man. Unfortunately, the table service was slow and our meal arrived fifteen minutes before our wine arrived. That said, the atmosphere is perfect and the live jazz was amazing. For what we got it was not a great value now, but they are recently re-opened and I expect they will get up to speed soon. I look forward to going back.

Definitely not the Palm Court. Cocktails were well-crafted but among the most expensive in town, ranging from $16-24 per cocktail. We ordered shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, and steak frites and made it clear that everything was to split between the two of us. The shrimp cocktail came out immediately and before we were finished with it, both the salad and steak came out together with the intention that one would be served to each of us at the same time. This was completely unacceptable and poor timing on the part of the server and kitchen. The restaurant wasn’t busy, it just seemed to be apathetic. The French fries were good, but everything else (other than the cocktails) was subpar. Probably won’t go back, even though we live less than a block away. There are plenty of other restaurants in downtown that are serving excellent and creative food. This classic Cincinnati restaurant could use some new creativity.

Not only is the food devine, the ambiance makes this an experience to remember. The history of the building, paired with the excellent service makes this a dreamy date night, or a unique dinner with the family. The live music was soothing and made the large room, walls adorned with art seem cozy. We will definitely be back.

The service was great, very attentive servers and wait staff. Some of the food was good, some was average. Definitely not worth the price in our opinion. The food took a while and came out warm, as though it had been sitting in the warmers in the kitchen for a bit. My friend (whose birthday it was) ordered the filet, medium. It came out well come and warm and was a hockey puck. After it already took a long time to come out, she didn’t even want to wait forever for another one. We noticed the server. Luckily they comped it but we were overall disappointed with the experience.
