The history of this building has ranged from a bonded warehouse to a butter merchants and now we bring you Forty-Four. The history of this vibrant restaurant is evident in the industrialised interior, from the exposed brick work to the metal beams dating back to the last century.

Very quiet in the restaurant when other places close by were full so should have rang some alarm bells. To be fair the service was excellent and the food was average. It was fine, nothing inedible or not nice, it just lacked flavour and finesse. It was a bit like what I could cook at home which for an £85 bill for 2 people is a lot of money. We came away and both thought “that was fine” but that’s all. The decor is nice and in a brilliant location. If the food was better I would be giving it a much higher rating.

The food was great, really tasty and fresh, but unfortunately it was the service which massively let it down. We asked for drinks and had a 25 minute wait. The drinks came just prior to the food. The food was lovely. We shares 8 tapas between 2 and also had the bread. We then ordered another drink. Waited half an hour and it didn’t arrive. We gave up and asked for the bill. I could understand if it was busy but half the tables had been vacated. The server who hadn’t dealt with us was very apologetic on behalf of the other person and offered us a free drink but by this time we just wanted to leave. Such a shame as it was recommended to us.

Last minute booking. Great food, wine and great service. Good value for money. Restaurant part was busy and quite loud, but wanted to sit in the nice bar area anyway - so really chilled where we were. Will definitely go again.

Food was beautiful. I had Brie and gnocchi and my partner had focaccia and steak. We both had dessert too. Meals were lovely, waiters were attentive without being overbearing. Have eaten here many times before and I’m sure we will again.
