Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
A Restaurant on Newport Blvd exudes "old school steakhouse vibe" with its classic red booths and "dark, moody atmosphere." Known for "excellent service" by standout servers like Stacy and Brian, it offers a "fantastic food" selection with highlights like chicken piccata and ribeye. While "great for celebrations," it can get "very loud," but the "lively, intimate atmosphere" remains a draw for locals.

The feeling you get here is IT. The Brussels sprouts & steak are my go to’s. Super cute smiley waitress & the 8 of us enjoyed our company together. You can’t help but feed off of other people’s vibes there & it’s super fun. Every single time. Cheers A’s

Excellent food. Great old school steakhouse decor. It is very loud but I assume it’s part of the appeal. Great service!

We have always enjoyed A but not this time. Too dark, too noisey, tough steak, too expensive. We will not be back.

Let’s start with the food because it’s the only reason this place gets two stars. The Caesar salad, carpaccio, and ribeye were all very good. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The crab cakes were clearly previously frozen and deep fried, absolutely inedible. The potato purée tasted like instant mix you’d get on a plane or in a cafeteria, truly revolting. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. It’s loud, chaotic, and lacks any sense of refinement. The service was equally disappointing. The wait staff appeared completely untrained with no sense of timing, etiquette, or attentiveness. As for the clientele, the dress code is nonexistent. Think sports jerseys, baseball caps, and cut off jean shorts. Hardly the setting for a so-called fine dining experience. It seems the restaurant caters to guests who have no interest in standards, which might explain the lack of care in service or ambiance. This place is a complete joke if you’re expecting any level of sophistication. Avoid at all costs.

I had been recommended to this restaurant by a person in the Wine business. My Daughter and Grandchildren live in NP and we are in N. Cal. We have had many great meals i n OC over the years. A Restaurant tops them all. The "traditional" Steak House vibe, excellent service, wine list and ultimately the food were superb. This could become "the family tradition" going forward.

The A Restaurant was the perfect spot to kick off a meaningful celebration. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it for any occasion! From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The food was outstanding—the chicken piccata was flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ambiance was warm, and just right for a special evening with close friends.
