Across from Millennium park and along Chicago’s Cultural Mile, Acanto Restaurant + Wine Bar is a treasured destination for those who appreciate authentic and approachable Italian food in a conversation-friendly atmosphere. Acanto serves seasonally-driven Italian cuisine from both regions of Italy utilizing artisanal ingredients from Midwest farmers and producers. Acanto boasts one of the most lauded wine programs in the US, including a 3-star rating by World of Fine Wine and a two-glass “Best of Excellence” rating by Wine Spectator. The libations menu is rounded out by Italian classics including spritzes and negronis along with craft cocktails, beer, and spirits.

The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.

We went for the Restaurant Week lunch. The menu was great and delicious. The wine program here is outstanding due to the sommelier on staff. From the minute you walk in the door, the restaurant is warm and inviting. The waiters are friendly and the manager came over to make sure everything was up to par. If you are shopping at Macy's, it would be nice to stop in at the bar, relax and have a great glass of wine. We be back!!

The food is excellent. I have a gluten allergy and they were able to accommodate most anything on the menu, even make homemade gluten free pasta in house that was amazing! The atmosphere is romantic with real candles on the table and in a beautiful setting in the city. Service was excellent with servers being very nice and attention to details. We will definitely be back!

I have been to many upscale Italian restaurants and this was honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The food was simple but elevated; the depth of flavors and freshness was impressive, especially for a Saturday night of restaurant week. I thought I didn’t like arancini after several dried out dense experiences in the past, but Acanto’s was moist, with oozy cheese and light crisp and a surprisingly delicate pesto sauce—to die for! The service was extremely friendly but not overbearing much like the cozy atmosphere—upscale but not stuffy. It was my niece’s birthday and they really made her feel special. We had a hard time deciding what was our best dish. You really can’t go wrong! Prices are fair for the quality and portions are good size. We had the arancini, lobster mascarpone ravioli, chicken marsala (best mushrooms/sauce and broccolini I’ve ever tasted), bolognese rigatoni, strawberry meringue, chocolate bonet, and tiramisu!

The food was delicious. The waiter was very good and attentive and the atmosphere was very upscale and cozy. I didn’t know what the restaurant would look like since I had only passed it from the street. Loved everything about our lunch.

Looked fwd to going here last night and tried ordering carbonara, you know, the thing any Italian restaurant offers? was told they could not make any and they had no spaghetti pasta?! I had to settle for some thick noodles with cubed chicken bits in a tomato sauce that tasted like it was out of a can, the food came very fast, too fast. It was embarrassing having a dinner date here and I actually apologized to my date. Thanks, but cannot recomend it.
