Lovely venue, food exceeded expectations, an all round great experience. Had warned them it was my birthday but not mention of it which was slightly disappointing.

If you're visiting for the experience, then enjoy. It's by no means the best afternoon tea I've ever had and it's quite ridiculously poor value for money but the view is nice. Don't go hungry because you'll come home hungry and don't expect good tea in proper china. The building has lovely aspects but is really tired in parts and whilst it wasn't a total waste of time it's really, really, REALLY overrated.

Brilliant experience and lovely food. I have wanted to visit Burgh Island Hotel for years and having afternoon tea there was such a treat. We felt very welcome and staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely find an excuse to go back!

Stunning location, ambience and a real sense of luxury upon your own small island off the South Devon coast. My second visit and every bit as good as the last.

Despite the food being fantastic, the service I'm afraid was quite poor. On arrival we were asked by reception to take a seat in The Palm Court where we would be seated at our booked table. Once in the restaurant the staff seemed to be running around despite there being only a few people dining and were a bit confused by our presence. We found our own table and were attended to a couple of times by different staff but each request did not produce anything. Water, menus, orders, food, salt and pepper etc took ages to come or simply didn't come at all. The restaurant was by this time empty and staff were busy moving tables and chairs around despite dirty plates and glasses remaining on most other tables. Not a very clean atmosphere. I have worked in the customer service industry for many years. Attention to customers and a clean environment should take precedence over rearranging tables and chairs in other parts of the restaurant. The service however was saved at the end by a very competetent and experienced waiter by the name of Gary who couldn't have been more friendly and attentive - Thank you Gary. It's a shame the rest of the staff were not the same. The food was excellent but for a place such as this, fine bone china would have been more appropriate for afternoon tea. The Palm Court is a very interesting place to spend a few hours on a sunny Autumn afternoon.

Second rate experience and not worth £45 a head! Champagne good, then after half an hour our tea came out, so as we had ordered this to come out with our food we were very disappointed we had to wait another half hour for a second rate dry sandwich and scones which were flat and overcooked!!

Lovely afternoon tea at this beautiful venue. Our very helpful waiter moved the table setting for us so we were comfortable. It was a very enjoyable experience.

If you, as my husband and I are, are a fan of art deco and all things Agatha Christie then afternoon tea at the Palm Court at the Burgh Island Hotel is a must do. The setting is so atmospheric, on an island you can only reach at low tide, the setting for "and then there were none." The hotel decor is a homage to the era, and the palm court is exquisite, look out for the mermaids on the bar. The afternoon tea itself is good value, not cheap but like the environment it is incredibly Instagram-able and very decadent. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming - I look forward to returning if I am ever in Devon again!
