Dating back to the 1830s, afternoon tea was first imagined by the Duchess of Bedford, and nearly 200 years later, this cherished ritual remains as delightful as ever.

At Ellenborough Park, we invite you to experience this beloved and timeless tradition. Set in The Great Hall, the oldest part of our Manor House dating back to the 15th century. Start with your choice of teas, freshly brewed coffee, or our homemade infusions like hot ginger or fresh mint. Then, savour a seasonal sumptuous spread of delicate sandwiches, savory bites, freshly baked scones, and handcrafted sweet treats.

                                                                      The afternoon tea itself was nice, the savoury items (quiche, sausage roll etc) were very good, as were the scones. However the service was underwhelming. There was confusion around our cakes which led to us having to ask numerous times for service. I also had to chase the bill after being told it would be brought to me but the barman served a number of other guests before us (who were after us in the queue). It felt as though we were forgotten about as we were not staying at the hotel. It was an unfortunate end to a lovely day.

                                                                      Beautiful hotel and grounds. Sandwiches and scones were a little dry but still tasty. The star of the show was our waitress Josie, a really lovely young lady, who couldn’t do enough for us, to make sure that we were happy. Thankyou Josie for making our afternoon extremely pleasurable, she is a credit to Ellenborough Park.

                                                                      The quality of the food in the afternoon tea was fantastic, we were welcomed and well looked after and the venue and location of our table was amazing. Our only gripe is that we had searched across the Cotswolds for an Easter-themed afternoon tea menu; this was the only one we found and was the basis for our decision to visit, so it was somewhat disappointing that there was not one nod to Easter in the entire food offering that we could discern - not a chocolate, not an egg, not even a chick or a bunny. Definitely a first world problem, and we would still recommend Ellenborough Park highly, but we thought this was a bit odd.

                                                                      The best vegan afternoon tea EVER !! We pre-booked an afternoon tea for a family celebration, and we were absolutely delighted with the thought,consideration and variety of delicious savoury and sweet items presented to us. Many hotels simply take items away that aren't suitable for a specific dietary requirement, but the staff had put so much thought and effort into providing delicious plant based substitutes. We sat down in the magnificent but cosy Great Hall and were presented with a book of teas to choose from ! All the teas were loose leaf and of a superior quality, which added to our experience. The afternoon tea arrived, most professionally presented and delivered to our table,and it even included a plant based charcuterie board which we had never tried before,as most establishments would not take the trouble. So overall we were absolutely delighted and would like to express our thanks to all the staff at Ellenborough Park for going to the trouble to make our special day that extra bit more special.

                                                                      Beautiful setting that looks like it was pulled from a storybook. Tea and food we're among the best I've had. The Welsh rarebit was a treat.
