If there was an 'extremely poor' option I would have used it, we booked this 'celebration' for our granddaughter's 9th birthday - a 'grown up' treat for her - big mistake, should have stuck with McDonalds We made the booking believing that the cost would be as advertised = £20.50 x 4 and £9.95 x 1 plus maybe a couple of extra drinks, we didn't expect a bill for £110.85 which appears to be as advertised PLUS VAT! ...isn't this illegal? It seems we paid £20.50 PLUS VAT each for 4 x 'luxury' Afternoon Teas which consisted of 1 x supermarket sliced bread sandwich each (2 slices with 4 x different fillings in 4 quarters) plus a small sausage roll, tiny 50p sized quiche, a crumbly stale scone with jam and cream plus 4 x bite sized fancies each, we did offer feedback to the waitress regarding the stale scones, we were offered more but one stale scone is enough for anyone as it falls apart when being sliced, - very dry We were only offered tea or coffee, a jug of water was brought over but we had to 'chase' the waitress for glasses to pour the water into! We asked for a fruity mocktail for our birthday girl but were told that they had no fruit! ...however, they would make up something special for her - she was presented with a drink of pineapple juice, cream and ice with straw at a cost of £8.95 PLUS VAT (£10.74)! ...very unappetising - it was tasted by us all, absolute rubbish! ...we were also charged £1.50 PLUS VAT for a blackcurrant cordial, £1.50 PLUS VAT for a soda and lime cordial and £6.95 PLUS VAT for a pint of lager. A child's Afternoon Tea at £9.95 PLUS VAT consisted of 2 x slices of bread with fillings, 2 x chocolate cookies, a piece of brownie plus a handful of red grapes (we'd been told that they had no fruit!) ...there was no drink offered hence the order for a blackcurrant cordial at £1.50 PLUS VAT! All in all an absolute rip off, my husband is in contact with the venue regarding the possibly illegal 20% VAT charges on the bill ...

Not a very good afternoon tea experience, the service was shocking and we were left 50 minutes for our bill and the cakes we wanted to take home went dry and old so had to leave them £80 for 4 people it just wasn’t worth it the atmosphere was rubbish too put in a back room with no atmosphere

After reading some reviews I was a little wary of the booking but I was wrong. Positives 1st - plenty of parking, complimentary bottle of prosecco for the birthday girl, unlimited tea/coffee, nicely presented food. Negatives - a bit quiet there was only 2 tables in, not enough cream with the scones. Not 3rd world problems. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would go back again my advice ignore the reviews and try it yourself x

On a really cold wintry day with standing snow and temperature of 2 degrees we had a drink in the bar before we were shown to our table and our afternoon tea followed shortly afterwards. Nothing was hurried along and it was a real pleasure to be at Mosborough Hall which was very cosy on this awful day of weather. Even the toilets were spotless and we had continuous chat from the lady running our experience and the bar at the same time. My wife`s 60th was celebrated with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and a really nice card. We will definitely be visiting Mosborough Hall again. Well done all and thank you so much. Chris & Kim

Disappointed. Saturday afternoon. This hotel is very local for us in a lovely village having visited here several times previously we booked again for afternoon tea & planned to have drinks after in the bar area. On arrival we did comment that there were no customers in the bar area which normally is very busy and has a good atmosphere. We were greeted by a lovely lady who asked if we were here for afternoon tea, she advised that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment so we were taken to the smaller function room behind the bar , we walked in to a room which was full of tables & chairs and nothing else it had bare walls, no furnishings with no atmosphere or other customers, we presumed it was also getting prepared for refurbishment, it was very uninviting. I think they were using it as a breakfast room for hotel guests as outside there were tables prepared for juice tea/coffee etc. As we were the only customers in the bar and restaurant area the staff were attentive and kept checking on us. The afternoon tea was as expected with plenty of refills of hot tea. The food was served on small dark wooden upcycled shelving units normally used for trinkets or it could have been an old drawer with compartments with the drawer handle used to carry it to the table. Not the most hygienic. In the past a traditional 3 tier cake stand had been used which is a far better way to present an afternoon tea. As we are very good friends we chatted away as usual & enjoyed each others company. When we had finished around 6.00pm the bar area was only partly lit with no customers so we decided to leave. In the past we have enjoyed a few hours in the bar. We were advised the reason for no customers was due to a general industry decline. There has definitely been a missed opportunity to attract the local community to this historic hotel in prime position in a popular village where the population is still increasing. We would not return again.

Food was dreadful. Worst afternoon tea I've had. None of the savories were warm and the scones were that hard I could have built a wall with them, I couldn't get my knife through them.

The lady serving us was lovely, so helpful. The sandwiches were quite dry, felt as though they had been made and left out some Time. The restaurant was empty when we were there, u thionyl the tea would have been better served on the bar.
