It was my husbands birthday. The afternoon tea was very disappointing. The sandwiches were awful, bread felt stale. Took so long for the tea to arrive that the coffee and tea had gone cold. The lounge was freezing cold!!! So we sat with coats on!! As the fires were not lit until we arrived and then could t get going!!! The staff were apologetic and did give a discount for the poor service. But I would rather have had a perfect afternoon tea to celebrate my husbands birthday. Instead we were very disappointed.

Practically perfect in every way. The instant the gates swung open to reveal the sweeping drive, the rushing brook, the quaint bridge and the imposing manor, I knew it was going to be memorable. Polite, attentive, yet unobtrusive service from the moment we arrived, was followed by an impressively laid out tea service with the best china, crisp white linens and beautiful flowers. No paper napkins, fake roses or stainless steel here! We were in the dining room and although envious of the resident guests huddled around the fire, the setting and atmosphere of the larger space still lent a wonderful degree of comfort and elegance. To try and decide from the magnificent array of teas was a treat in itself and finally chosen, arrived aromatic and piping hot. At first I thought the waitress had brought in The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but this was in fact our three tiered afternoon tea. Cheese scones with Dijon butter, a deliciously varied sandwich selection cut with a set-square, warm scones with all the best accompaniments and a plate of delicate pastries that sung like heaven on the taste buds! All in all this was probably, no certainly, the best afternoon tea I have had and I have had many. The Manor House at Castle Coombe offers the full package and actually left me wanting more than just another bite of that warm cheesy scone!

Had a wonderful afternoon tea here to celebrate my daughters 18th Birthday. We were made to feel special and the sandwiches and cakes were delightful. Beautiful setting and very friendly and attentive staff nothing was too much trouble. Did not feel under any pressure to leave - I could have sat there all evening - lovely ambiance. Lovely touch with the complimentary glass of bubbly for the birthday girl - a treat to remember.

I definitely consider myself an expert in afternoon teas - I've had them on 3 continents, and in more than 20 countries. For the price paid, this tea was hands down the best I've had in the UK. You would easily pay £50-£60 per person for a tea of this quality in London. The scones were delicious, the cakes were on point with very interesting and refined flavours, and the tea selection was interesting without being overwhelming. The sandwiches were good, but probably the least interesting part of the meal. The staff was outstanding - very attentive without being intrusive, incredibly knowledgable about the meal and the hotel, and accomodating to my husband's dietary requests, even though it meant totally remaking the sandwhiches for him. The hotel is gorgeous and this experience topped off a wonderful few hours exploring Castle Combe. Take the time to explore the garden before you go inside, or use it as an excuse to burn some calories afterwards. This goes in my top 5 of global afternoon teas and I will recommend it to friends and return myself when I have guests visit from the States.

We went there for afternoon tea and it was amazing. From the food to the location and the service, it was a very enjoyable afternoon. The cakes are the best I've had for afternoon tea and there is an extensive selection of loose teas available. The hotel is beautiful and if the weather allows it, enjoy the garden. Worth the drive up to Castle Combe!
