One of the Frank Gehry-designed spaces, AGO Bistro is conveniently located on the first floor with access from Dundas Street. The restaurant is casual chic: modern Danish furnishings are paired with acrylic tabletops in a multitude of vibrant colours. Etched glass and vertical-grain Douglas fir also accent the space. With a dedication to using the best local produce, menus reflect seasonal changes and availability. Ingredients are sourced from the finest suppliers and farms, and are cooked simply to showcase the natural flavours of the food.

Shared a green salad with grilled salmon, and augmented it with an order of the AGO Bistro's always great french fries with aoili. For dessert, Rebecca our fantastic waitress suggested a panna cotta made from coconut and a purple tuber (Ubé?), which was like a rich rice pudding without the rice. Great lunch, great service!

Recently had brunch to celebrate our 1st anniversary with our cousin. It's not our first visit to the Bistro. We live nearby and have been in numerous time on our own or with friends and family. The reason: The food is always excellent, delicious and great value for the money. Today, our waiter, including the trainee wait staff he was supervising, was beyond excellent, friendly and helpful. He put up with my attention-seeking husband and put up with his joking banter. Kudos to him for handling it with professional aplomb. He is a great asset. Your bartender Stephen also deserves high praise. My husband is picky about his martinis. He is constantly annoyed to order a lime twist only to receive a lemon slice or to ask that it be served with a small amount of ice in a rocks glass only to receive it in a wine glass with tons of ice... that kind of thing. Stephen nailed it on the first try, plus he was very knowledgeable. When I mentioned my enjoyment of The Last Word cocktail, he suggested I might wish to try the Verdant Lady. We did - it was wonderful! It was lovely afternoon. Thank you to everyone for making our day.

Stephanie our server was wonderful! The quality & taste of the food were great. The only negative was the portion sizes, even with the Kid's menu selection of pasta. For the price-points on par with higher-end restaurants IE Yorkville area, the portions were startlingly quite peckish and made for overall disappointment. At other similar category restaurants, our young diner would be quite satisfied with the pasta portions. At the AGO Bistro, it left her still hungry for a bit more. I opted for the soup and oyster mushrooms where again, was disappointed at the peckish size of both esp the oyster mushrooms which didn't leave room to share even 1-2 bites with my accompanying diners. Potatoe & leek soup was aptly seasoned, rich & smooth, fried oyster mushrooms were crispy & meaty. The accompaniment sauce didn't suit my personal taste but I did come to appreciate it after a few bites. The grilled cornish hen & veggies were nicely seasoned and well-cooked, not dry. Again, half the hen is peckish. With prices of food and most cost of living being so inflated, when people do dine out -irrespective of higher-end or average family category establishments, diners are nowadays expecting ample portions that `give full bang for their bucks', which would warrant the decision of `splurging' on a meal out. Having some olives or bread/butter offered at the table as most restaurants do, translates to a welcoming gesture by the restaurant resp when not having to be ordered. When visiting the AGO, there are no in/out privileges so visitors are forced to eat at cafe or bistro, not neighboring businesses. Although represented as more of a fine dining establishment yet considering the major demographics of AGO visitors are families and persons under 28+, it would be a prudent decision for management to consider the recommends on portion size and the complimentary table olives/bread/butter offerings for the families that visit the AGO, ultimately increasing their walk-ins.

Food was good, but service was makung rookie mistakes. I got my soup and main course at the same time. My wife did not get her bread until she finished her meal. But all in all was OK.

We were celebrating a family birthday at the Bistro and all opted for the 2-course set menu. Soup and salads were excellent, chicken and pancakes very good, salmon roti was good but rosti a tad oversalted for our tastes. Will opt for something other than brewed coffee next time, as it was served lukewarm and just not inviting.
