We enjoyed our pre-theater dinner although we did not order from their pre fixe pre-theater menu. We shared the cauliflower dip that is served with toast points. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese and my husband had the burger. The portions were generous and the dishes were well prepared. Jamie, our server, was great, always around when needed but not hovering. We told him we had a 7:30 PM curtain and we got to the theater 15 minutes before curtain. The ambience is cafeteria-like - light gray tile floors and high lighting levels. With all the hard surfaces, the sound level is moderately high although not high enough to hinder conversation. There is lots of space between tables, so it never felt crowded. We are pretty selective about our pre-theater restaurants, and we added Alder & Ash to our approved list.

We stopped for a bite before the theater. The waitstaff were personable and efficient. The fries were great. The bagel and lox were not presented well at all. The lox consisted of a few small lox clumps on a bagel sandwich overwhelmed with limp arugula. They should have been embarrassed to serve it.

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the food was tasty. However, despite reserving a table and arriving on time, we waited over 15 minutes and had to remind the staff. The host offered a free appetizer due to the delay but and the waitress was unaware of it and did not know what to offer becauseit was brunch time and look like only one option was available. In the end, we were given fries as appetizer, but it was still added to the bill. Our drinks arrived late, nearly after finishing our main dishes. The ahi tuna was delicious, but overall, the experience was just okay.

Over all not the greatest experience for an higher end type restaurant. First our waitperson was more than apathetic, the person seemed to have the whole dinning area herself, Restaurants fault for not having another one on shift.. seemed to be enough servers bringing the food, but not enough waitstaff.. Also, it was my son’s birthday, and I was hoping it was a really nice experience, but the person seemed to have a nasty tone to her voice, didn’t smile and was quick to walk away before we could almost finish our questions or sentence. Very very unpleasant!!!! I told her it was his birthday and she basically said they don’t do the whole song and dance even if we ordered dessert. So don’t expect them to go out of their way to offer a complimentary birthday treat! I even put it on Open Table when it asked if Special Occasion, and still NOTHING! Let’s talk food… they ran out of wild rice with my salmon, which is quite difficult to understand, since it was a Monday night, dinner reservations at 6:30 and ordered by 7… 🤦🏽‍♀️ how do you run out of rice.. Was offered mashed potatoes or orzo, should have gone with orzo, because the potatoes were bland… salmon was good though. Pappardelle had an overpowering taste of nutmeg. The NY steak was not tender and it was medium rare, which was done correctly, but, hard and somewhat chewy. For the price.. not worth it The caviar tots were ok, tots were very toasted, more on the darker side than I would think they would be, but didn’t taste burnt. The restaurant was busy, but not at full capacity… we should have had better service and accommodation. Plus the 4% added for non labor related goods, what??? We random pick different restaurants to try, and I don’t usually leave a comment, but this one needed one… Sorry so lengthy, but this was our experience, if anyone decides to try, I hope your experience is much better than ours was… Maybe try the weekends? Since busier, might get better service and food!

There was a long wait for a hostess to seat us, and an overall lack of warmth or care from the staff. Food was okay, but the menu was very limited overall in terms of variety.

This is a great place to eat before attending a matinee at the Paramount. It's pleasant, reasonably priced and so spacious that you probably do not need a reservation. I would recommend that you give it a try next time you are in the area. Especially if you're looking for cocktails. They can help you with that.
