The newly renovated American Hotel brings back the old world charm and ambiance of Freehold's long standing social centerpiece. Originally built in 1824 as a stagecoach stop, the hotel grew as did the needs of Monmouth County. But, after 180 years of making memories, the facilities were in need of a total make-over. New owner Steve Goldberg, stepped up to the plate by completing a full renovation, creating a New York style Boutique Hotel with restaurant and Banquet facilities which were described in the Asbury Park Press as a "masterpiece" and brought a new life and vibrancy to downtown Freehold.Located in the heart of Freehold, N.J., Monmouth County's government seat, the American Hotel provides travelers and guests a charming stay in a vibrant community. Our 20 hotel rooms, including deluxe and business suites provide all the modern conveniences and an attentive staff available for your personal needs. Our 3 Banquet Halls are ideal for your special Banquet or Party needs.

Great atmosphere, great service. Our waiter Mo was wonderful. Really enjoyed ourselves and were not rushed. Food was good but nothing over the top. Very basic. I wished the menu had some more entree options for seafood.

Our Reservation was for the Thanksgiving Buffet. We sat in a large banquet room, but service was very good. A very good buffet selection of all the Thanksgiving favorites, and a very nice selection of seafood including shrimp & oysters. We never felt rushed, and enjoyed our meal.

My first time at the Hotel since its renovation. I thought it would be a good place for a casual business lunch and it didn't disappoint. Admittedly it was a quiet day, but the hostess / server were very attentive and the food was great. I had the chicken and waffles and it was just the right amount and tasted really good. I would definitely recommend you give it a try

The crab dip tasted like it had very little crab The salad with 4 large shrimp for 30 dollars was overpriced. The burger and fries were so salty to me it was not edible. I did bring it home for another family member to try and he felt it was good if you’re not sensitive to a very high salt content
