    Excellent meal by Chef Dan. The course was the perfect size with excellent food choices. It is not super traditional if you are looking for that. It was more lively and relaxed. The room was tidy but lacked a high end ambience if that is what you are looking for. We were lucky enough to have another party book the Geisha experience with dinner. She danced, sang, and played games with us. Overall, a high point for us in Kyoto and an experience we will remember!

    Going into the reservation I wasn’t sure what I booked. Just a place a to eat in Kyoto but when my friend and I arrived, we learned it was an intimate, professional and authentic tasting of the most delicious courses, all made by the chef in front of you. We had a great crowd sitting with us. It was so special and I’m glad we did it. Definitely recommend.

    Chef Tominaga is incredible. For diners looking for an authentic experience and amazing food and a chef that speaks English and can explain the meal/preparation/dishes perfectly - this is the place for you. Every dish was unqiue and wonderful and he accomodated many vegetarian diners without hesitation. He even had his own labeled sake that was wonderful as well. In the heart of downtown Kyoto, this place is a must for a higher end meal. We asked him for tips for purchasing knives, and he gave us an amazing reccomendation that we followed up on. Thank you again!

    What an amazing dining experience in Kyoto! Chef Dan is very talented. He’s personable and kind! Outstanding service. All the dishes prepared were beautiful and delicious. Only 8 seats available at the counter each night. Worth every penny! Thank you Chef Dan for a memorable experience!

    I'll be honest, I had high expectations for this place, but for the price, there were several aspects that lacked attention. Normally, I don’t focus on low-rated reviews, thinking they might be overly critical, but after my experience, they seem spot on. Most of the dishes tasted good, especially the first three, and the bento box had some great fish. However, the fourth dish (rice and snapper) and the dessert (a simple plate of fruit) felt like throw aways. The rice dish had no seasoning, and I was genuinely puzzled as to why a former NYC executive chef—someone often invited to cook at various events around the world (what he had mentioned to us)—would serve just fruit as a dessert (he had not done anything but cut it up for us). For the price, I don’t think anyone would expect this. Beyond the food, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. It was just the three of us and the chef, who hadn’t prepped anything before we arrived. The restaurant itself had no decor and looked like he used much of it as storage. While the chef was kind to my parents and myself, I feel like we were duped. Maybe he thought since we weren’t “foodies” or that we were some unimportant Americans that he didn’t need to put in much effort? I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I believe it’s important to be honest—especially given the high price point. I wouldn’t want others to have the same disappointing experience.
