Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music.

Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

The food and service were really good. It was a bit loud and the drinks were okay, though I would go back.

Don’t you dare arrive without reservations!!! This restaurant is a hot spot and place to discover! Not only because of the aesthetics and ambiance… The food and beverages are absolutely delicious!! The lamb fritters, fries, and homemade fettuccine pasta with braised mushroom bolognese was simply a chef’s kiss!! Despite going during a busy time like restaurant week, we didn’t order from the restaurant week menu, b/c we didn’t have the time to consume it all.. Instead we picked some quick options from the main menu that definitely placed comfort in our stomachs!! The bartenders were amazing!!! Host greeted with a smile and even the severs greeted with utmost high energy! Neighborhood gem and worth paying a visit for delicious food!!

From being greeted by the host to sitting at the bar, our experience was 10/10. We went in during Oakland restaurant week and opted for the restaurant week menu and it did not disappoint. The bartender made me an amazing fresh lemon drop martini to start. Our appetizer, came out quickly and were delicious. our entrées were timely after we finished our appetizers and we’re even more delicious. The service was amazing since our reservation was for bar seating. The bartender was very attentive at 10 out of 10 recommend.

I’ve been wanting to try Bardo’s for a while now and Oakland Restaurant Week was the perfect time! We had the the lamb fritters, winter salad, apple and parsnip soup so good! For mains I had the pork chops and my brother the sole but were great! The dessert was delicious as well!

We loved our special night out at Bardo. We got to try a lot of small plates and we really enjoyed the excellent mix of flavors. The only thing we didn't like was some of the dishes were too salty for our taste.

I made dinner reservations for a friends birthday knowing that it was restaurant week. I have eaten at Bardo two other times and have always been impressed so I was excited to bring him in for the occasion. Unfortunately our dining experience was just OK. We were sat in a back corner upstairs next to two larger parties that were very loud, they also seemed like they were sort of annoyed at our arrival. Perhaps because they were busy and stressed (but this restaurant and the employees should be accustomed to this in my opinion. Service was acceptable and our server was friendly and receptive to our Then there was the food. We had the smoked salmon appetizer. This was a fail. The potato gratin base was cold and the texture was off, the smoked salmon was overwhelmingly salty and there was no acid to cut the salt. Our server without being asked, ended up having this removed from our bill. The polenta appetizer was excellent. The rib eye was perfectly cooked but the sides were sad accompaniments. Next to this delicious steak sat some small cut up roasted unseasoned potatoes sitting in a pool of oil and some soggy broccolini. Not what I expected from this place at all. Especially because the two other times the food was outstanding.

This is my second time dining at Bardo. I really like to know how I can get a table downstairs? Upstairs appears to be a little lonely, it’s not that pleasant to stare at the ceiling.

I had the pleasure of going to the opening night of restaurant week! The menu did not disappoint! Our highlights were all lamb fritter, apple parsnip soup, and the winter salad. For the entrees the Sole really stood out, such a flavorful dish. They also have a nice variety of cocktails. The service is always very welcoming and inviting! Definitely a must visit for restaurant week or any night!
