Visited one evening after the theater The Food and ambiance were wonderful. However the waiter and head waiter/manager was smug and condescending to our group! They pretty much told us they did not want us there without saying it out loud! Possibly not interested in serving Americans? We were well dressed ordered bottles of wine cocktails appetizers mains and desserts...so you can imagine it was not an inexpensive meal so the final disappointment was after paying the bill the waiter lingered in hopes of a larger tip above service charge, embarrassing and completely tone deaf to give that level of service and expect anything more!! Oh and be prepared that they charge pp for live entertainment that played 2 songs before finishing their set and leaving Save your money and enjoy great food and certainly better service anywhere else but here

Fabulous experience and great location, prices are typical of London venues but food quality is worth it.

Can't fault the food and service here, really excellent. They also have gluten free options which was very helpful. The reason it's a 4 star reviews is because of wo things. One, their wine is ludicrously priced, I think the cheapest single 175 glass was around £20 per glass which is just silly for a nice but not amazing wine. Secondly, we thought we were going to miss our reservation for a pre theatre menu due to appalling travel and football crowds so I rang several hours before (we had aong journey) - the cancellation charge was £100 more than the whole theatre menu charge, so beware even if you have a reasonable reason the charge is prohibitive - I appreciate restaurants need to make sure people turn up but if you give good notice and have good reason you're still paying a huge fee.

One of the very few places that were opened on a bank holiday and I must say that we had such a brilliant experience. We loved the food, the setting and the fact that it is located in such an accessible area makes this place fantastic. I am glad I got to know about this place and I would recommend you give this one a try.

Bardo sits discreetly in a lively part of St James, just off Trafalgar Square, with only a small sign making its presence known. The environment combines elements of an intimate speakeasy (though it is much larger) with old school white tablecloth service. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list (including offering a taste of a vintage with which I was not familiar), and was available but never hovering. The pace was just right. My wife and I both ordered and enjoyed the panzanella salad. Lightly flavorful and authentic, with generous bites of asparagus, radish and artichoke within the mixed greens. My entree, agnolotti del plin, was perfect — supple but not over cooked pasta shell stuffed with melt-in-the-mouth short rib. Just delectable. My wife enjoyed the tagliatelle all’astice, combining lobster, tomato and lemon over the pasta. Very light, with a chili and lemon accent. Another winner. Nit-picking very slightly, neither portion was overly generous, and the lobster content of the pasta was a bit light. Neither of these is a complaint, just an observation. We then enjoyed a mountain of hazel nut gelato for dessert. Perfect…smooth and creamy, no ice shards, with caramelized fresh hazel nuts on the side. Two bonuses: excellent live jazz, wondeful and not intrusive; and an unexpected gratis anniversary dessert (we’d forgotten we’d even mentioned our anniversary when making our reservation long before). A third: The kind of service you always want but rarely find. Available, attentive, well-paced, never intrusive. Great night. Bravo, Bardo!
