The format is dreadful. Restaurant was used as a bar so no tables available even though we had booked. Them had to order at the main bar which is ridiculous for a restaurant - and took ages. Staff were friendly but the format was so bad the staff were run off their feet and couldn’t cope. The management need to sort this out as the system doesn’t work

Arrived on time, no one to tell us where to go, finally found someone who continued to sit at the till and ignore us until I interrupted them. Didn’t take our name ask if we had a booking. Just told to sit wherever. Found a table, waited 20 minutes for no one to come to our table. No menus or drink menus on the table, so I went to look for someone. Again no one around, found some menus on the side. Sat back down and waited another ten minutes for no one to arrive. Walked to the main bar area to ask what the situation was, was told they were short staffed and that someone would come across shortly. Ten minutes later someone showed up and took our drinks order, was surprised when two small tins showed up, Ordered two Sunday dinners. However one came with missing items. The portion size is what I would consider a kids size and the food quality was poor. Soon as we finished I decided to just walk to the tills and pay as I didn’t want to wait for another half an hour to pay. Also the service was dreadful the lady basically throw our drinks order/ food on the table, also the glasses and cutlery where dirty. On a positive note. The place looks lovely and its dog friendly. Wouldn’t return

The venue is beautiful. We had reserved a table but we were just told to sit anywhere. There was a choice of just a high table and stools. Not ideal for two little old ladies. We both ordered pizza but there was no dough left. I ordered just a half portion of fish and chips and my friend ordered seafood spaghetti. I noticed that the fish was still about £18. After paying I was told a half portion was the same price. My fish was greasy and no lemon slice and the batter was really heavy, I faired better than my friend as her spaghetti was claggy very vinegary and to be honest looked disgusting. Unfortunately would not recommend.

To start with we had two excellent starters; the Haddock crouton, with the black pudding and partridge salad. There was some concern regarding food envy, however this was not the case, as both dishes were cooked to perfection (emphasis on ‘cooked’). Following on from our starters, the food envy was still an issue. I was rather worried that my main wouldn’t be as good as the other halves… this was not to an issue. Deciding to order the same dish, and hedge my bets, at least we’d be in the same boat, with FOMO not being an issue. After a little while of enjoying the restaurant and imagining just how good our main course would be (how couldn’t it be good. The quality of the starters was unbelievable), finally the big moment came. Firstly, I had forgotten I had ordered the beef - I was in two minds to get either the turkey or the beef - so when my partner was delivered the beef, I was secretly BUZZING that it wasn’t being placed in front of me. The beef was an odd colour of brown; more of a red, and what I’d describe as somewhat undercooked (now, I’m not a chef, so don’t take my word for it). Then it came. My plate of ‘MOOOOOOing’ cow. Devastated that I hadn’t actually ordered the turkey, I questioned if I could blag it and say I had actually ordered the turkey. As a man on conscience, I decided to keep my integrity. I picked, I poked, I searched for some cooked beef. But no. It was not meant to be. All that I could see was a river of blood. So much so, it had stained my mashed potato! Thankfully, I had the foresight to order some pigs in blankets as an extra, and unlike the beef; didn’t have a pulse. I gave this review a 3 stars, but really, in hindsight, It should be 5, due to the value for money - £67 for a cow. Personally I don’t think that’s bad! 🐄🐮 Seriously people, go to this restaurant. But DONT order the beef Sunday dinner.

The restaurant is nice well decorated and spacious. But there were too few serving staff at the bar doing drinks and taking food orders . The food was disappointing, one starter of haddock crumpet was just Luke warm. The main of chicken supreme was also cool and the sauce over thick , the spring onion mash was a bunch of rough cut onions with the mash plonked on top. Dessert of Black Forest chocolate moose had no cherry compote in it as advertised. Overall food was quite disappointing especially given the cost

My friends and I were staying at the hotel for our annual Christmas shopping trip. We’d booked a table weeks in advance for 8pm. Due to adverse weather conditions we were half an hour late and were told our table was no longer ‘set up’! We were very disappointed and were ushered into the bar area, given 2 tiny round tables pushed together were we ordered 4 light bite bar meals. They were awful, the potato skins looked like they’d been picked out of the bin and the fish on crumpets were quite unpleasant too. We were very disappointed - the bar staff were very unfriendly and made us feel uncomfortable. I do understand that food is served only until 9pm but had we been on time we would have stayed in the restaurant at least two hours - so why wasn’t our table available? It could have ruined out weekend but we chose not to complain.

The Bar was not staffed on arrival and so not very welcoming however, when we found someone the staff member was very helpful in finding us a table and bringing our drinks over to the table. The food was pleasant we all had the chicken skewers. There were plenty of guests and so the ambience was good. Would go back.

We made a booking and also confirmed following an email reminder. They had lost it and staff member wasn’t apologetic and just waved us into next room to find our own table if we could be bothered. We decided to stay as were interested to try it. Food was decent so that’s the best thing about our evening. Very few staff so we left fairly sharply after meal. So many good places in Harrogate I’m not sure this place will survive if they don’t get their act together.

We booked in advance and on arrival we were impressed with the smart interior of the Barking George and were pleased to be shown to a quieter dining area than the main bar. The selection of drinks was very good. Unfortunately the main course that both my husband and I chose were unavailable! No pie of the day at 6.30pm!!!! No venison steak either. My fish was overcooked and my husband's portion of burger and chips was underwhelming. The young waiter was friendly and wanted to please. We had a much better experience the next night at the Knaresborough Inn, in another Inn Collection pub.

I had the minted lamb burger which was dry, there was one tiny piece of lettuce and one small slice of tomato. It was advertised as a brioche bun, but it came on a ‘dry as a bone’ huge bread bun. The vegan options were limited and a friend had tempura veg which was not tempura batter and was tasteless. He had to ask for more dip as it was a minimal portion. All in all a very disappointing meal and we will not book to eat here again. The drinks service at the bar took ages, there was quite a queue.
