   I would have given a 5-star rating for our evening in Bayte, as the food was delicious and the service attentive and friendly. The only thing that spoiled the evening and negate a 5-star rating were the poor DJ's, who seemed to have no idea that it was New Years Eve or concept of how to get the party started. Having attend Bayte the previous New Years eve when the food and service were equally good as this year, the previous year's DJ had the whole restaurant rocking and the entire clientele on their feet dancing to welcome in the New Year in style. This year however, the DJ's seemed content play muzak that was better suited to lifts and public spaces, rather than a New Years eve party. When the DJ's were asked if they could play music a little livelier and more fitting to a New Years eve celebration, I was described as a middle-aged white man by one DJ and the other DJ continued to give my table "the finger", which I found to be somewhat surprising. Considering that I was the customer, and was only making a request for a more upbeat music vibe, the response from the DJ's was rather rude and unnecessary. Other than the interaction with the DJ's, we all had a good evening, enjoying delicious food and a lovely selection of accompanying wines, supported by great service.

   Overall we thought the dishes of the tasting menu were of good quality, but the flow, timing, and service of the tasting menu was all out of whack. The first course arrived before we'd even had an opportunity to chat to the waitress about drinks or supplemental dishes (we wanted to order the drinks pairing, and we also wanted the additional course of oysters but weren't given the opportunity to do so before the first course came out). We did eventually get on to the wine pairing but then the wine often came out so much earlier than the course it was paired with, and was such a small amount, that it was difficult to keep that small bit of wine for the actual dish it was paired with. There were a few large gaps between the courses which really started to become a bit of a wait on a few occasions. Of five dishes, four of them were really quite small, and all three of us at the table walked away still feeling hungry at the end of the dinner. Really the first dish would be considered an amuse-bouche and not a stand alone dish. The food was good, but only one or two stand out dishes (the crab pasta was a winner all round). The wine was paired really well, it was just a shame the timings of it all were so out of sync that it was difficult to hold off from drinking the wine until the food finally came out. We had mixed service and it didnt feel like the waitresses were communicating very well wich caused a bit of confusion at the beginning. Overall we all thought it was just ok for the money, but didn't wow us by any means. I'm not sure we'll visit again.

   Food was really interesting and well prepared. A short menu modern Italian/spanish everything we had was perfect. A very good local restaurant well worth a visit.

   We were looked after well and the trout and watercress was very well prepared. Inventive, high quality food, friendly service and no loud noisy music. I will be back!

   Gorgeous place to eat, incredible food with impressive provenance and quality of ingredients. Combined with friendly staff, great drinks selection, and the toasty fire makes it a first-rate evening.

    Food exceptionally good and service was great. Vegetarian food is given just as much care and attention as meat and fish dishes. Only downside is that the restaurant was cold. I’ll make sure I bring a jumper next time!
