Housed in a beautiful, bright ex-bank building tucked neatly in to Stone’s historic High Street, our third store has been designed to incorporate and preserve many of the site’s original features whilst still massively transforming the space.

The space has loads of cosy nooks and large social tables, as well as a secluded mezzanine space that’s almost too easy to settle in to. Pop in and grab your morning takeaway coffee or stay longer for brunch, just make sure you come and see us.

I’ve eaten many times in Bear but unfortunately on this occasion I was disappointed in the food. We had been asked to pre order our food as there were 7 of us dining, I understand this and didn’t have an issue with pre ordering. Unfortunately we then felt rushed by our server to go ahead with our food and were on two occasions told the restaurant closed at 9.00, our table was booked for 7.15! I’d ordered a pizza, on arrival it clearly hadn’t been freshly made as the cheese wasn’t soft and the pizza was Luke warm. I was sharing the pizza with my daughter who had a halloumi loaded flatbread, this looked lovely but again wasn’t freshly made and was Luke warm. The others in our group gave similar feedback.

I had booked a table for myself, my partner and our baby with notes of a highchair. When we arrived they said they have put us upstairs (we had a pushchair so this wasn’t convenient) and said they weren’t aware of needing a highchair. The girl then showed me her paper notes for the bookings and there was my note for a high chair! We continued to sit upstairs and left our pushchair where the toilets were as we came for my birthday brunch. My partner saw there was a table free downstairs which would’ve had room for our pushchair. The girl was happy to move us. Overall it wasn’t the best start however the food was great.

Normally look forward to a visit to Bear but following recent visit won’t be rushing back. Food was at best average..lacking in flavour, in fact my husbands had to be sent back to the kitchen as the burnt remains from the grill had also been served to him. Everything felt a little bit tired… and was lacking any festive build up.. I’m not in the habit of leaving negative reviews, but felt this time it was very valid.
