Benjamin's Restaurant and Lounge offers a "lovely ambience" and "good service" with a "great value" Tuesday dinner for two. While some guests praise the "excellent seafood" and "delicious food," others note inconsistencies with wait times and food quality. I have been there for lunch a couple of times and the food and service were amazing. I figured going there for a holiday meal would be just as good. But it was completely different. I would never book again for a holiday meal. It was chaotic. Everyone had reservations and was supposed to be seated for a 1-230 slot but we didn’t get in until after 2:00. The next session was at 3:00. People were waiting for over an hour in the lobby, which was definitely a fire hazard. Then while people were trying to go in to be seated, others were trying to get out the same door to go to the buffet. Then people who got food from the buffet were trying to go back to their seats through the same door as everyone else. By the time I got back to my table, the food was cold. There was supposed to be turkey and there wasn’t any. So, I paid $35 for a plate of pasta and chicken Marsala. Drinks were not included. I had to ask for 2 scoops because the serving size was tiny. I did not want to go back up for a second plate cuz I stood in line for about a half an hour with my elderly grandmother who uses a cane and has a hard time walking. There were a lot of elderly people there that had to stand for long periods of times waiting to be seated then waiting in the line at the buffet. The service was terrible. I waited so long just for some water. The waitress was dropping things. She kept apologizing about everything. She said she’s the bar tender not a waitress. Then the check was not correct. They did quickly fix it. Plus they automatically charged the tip even though it was a buffet. Everyone in that restaurant was aggravated and I heard alot of people saying they would never go back. Many unhappy patrons. The food wasn’t that great either.

We had a 6 o’clock reservation. We did not get waited on until almost 620. At that time she took our orders for food. I ordered the vegetable lasagna and my wife ordered chicken franchise. At about 7 o’clock I questioned the waitress where our food was, could we have still been waiting. She said she would check on it about five or 10 minutes later. She came back and said I’m so sorry but the vegetable lasagna when it came out, it didn’t smell too good so what would you like instead so I took chicken franchise like my wife had also Wood a baked potato. I told him we had a show to be at in Providence at 8 PM. They apologize and said they would do the best they could. Our food came out close to 730 and it was not with a baked potato, but rather with pasta. We did not send it back because we needed to eat to get out of there. The manager did come by and apologize And said there would be no charge for a meal, but that was little comfort to the pressure we were under to be at our show. There were a lot of complaints going on around me also regarding how long it took wrong items being brought out we could see all this happening. I have not seen anything like that happened at a restaurant and a very long time.

Benjamin's Restaurant is located inside the Raddison hotel on Rt 44 Seekonk, easy to get to. I found it nicely appointed and comfortable. My wife and I started out with a calamari appetizer. The description on the menu said deep fried with garlic butter. I thought that meant crispy. What we got was a mushy coated rubbery ring and a squid body that was uneatable. Entree's were lemon chicken Picata with angel hair and veal Marsala with spaghetti. In both cases the meals were delivered hot and cooked very well. The problem was that they had no flavor. The lemon chicken was missing lemon, herbs and any real flavor in general. The veal, while excellently cooked, had a sauce more closely resembling a weak, watery gravy than a Marsala. Pricing was reasonable but I found that $12 for a 6 oz glass of Riesling was a bit much. Like most restaurants, staffing seemed to be a problem and it appeared that our waiter was a bit over taxed. He was very knowledgeable and was as attentive as he could be, but as things picked up his attention was pulled in all directions. He is to be commended for keeping his pleasant demeanor and providing a good service.
