Named after La Jolla’s popular Open Aire Farmer’s Market, Bistro du Marché allows chef Diot to work closely with farmers to incorporate the finest local flavors into his dishes. Led by Cheffe Amélie Gadoum, Bistro du Marché incorporates quality ingredients and rigorous French technique. Signature dish includes Wild Mushroom Ravioli in Port wine Sauce. One of the specialties: Un Coq au Vin "Ivre de Bourgogne" Organic Chicken Braised in Red Wine Sauce, Yukon Gold Mashed Potato, Carrot, Mushrooms.

Bistro du Marché is based on the culinary concept of “bistronomie”, that emerged in Paris. Bistronomie, is a play on words on the concepts of “bistro” and “gastronomie”. It is a form of French cuisine that emphasizes the blending of haute gastronomic expertise, seasonality, and the traditional “cuisine de terroir” found in bistros across France. The youthfulness of the bistronomie movement has succeeded in reinvigorating French classic cuisine, and raised the bar of traditional French bistros.

    This place was just right. My wife and I often split a salad and a meal. They did not even blink an eye. The salad and meal were both split in the kitchen and no one would know by looking at the served dishes that the meal was meant for one. We’ll be back.

    Fabulous French restaurant. The food was excellent. Scallops were cooked perfectly. The branzino preparation was outstanding. Delicious desserts to choose from. A wonderful restaurant that we will return to next time we visit.

    This was our second visit to Bistro du Marche' this month for dinner prior to an event at the La Jolla Music Society's "The Conrad". We shared the Country Pate' appetizer and found it delightful. To accompany the Pate' we shared an Old Fashioned which was superb. My wife had the Slow Braised Wild Boar on pasta and I had the Venison. Both were very flavorful and tender. Ariana was, once again, our waitress and remains friendly and attentive. We brought our own wine a 2016 Chateau Beaucastel chateauneuf-de-pape which paired perfectly with our entrees. Looking forward to our next visit in the New Year.

    It’s French food for untraveled Americans. The endive salad was very good but the duck and branzino were merely adequate. I was surprised that the water that was brought to our table tasted like my pool, luckily it was quickly taken away and replaced with Evian. I wish they would get a better chef.

    Leila: As per my reading: “French food for??? Seriously. We have never heard of such qualifications. Our acclaimed chefs do not prepare such a food. They prepare food for everyone. As per my understanding the branzino and the duck were matching the taste they should have. Unfortunately, your critic has no interest and does not serve any purpose. Regarding the taste of water, you should address your complaint to San Diego City. And please do not hesitate to invite us to your next pool party…

    Wonderful French food and a wonderful waiter from Paris! We felt like we traveled to France for the evening. We also loved that it felt like a hidden gem that locals go to.

    My wife and I dined at Bistro du Marche' by Tapenade prior to a Holiday Concert at The Conrad (La Jolla Music Society) last night. This is our go-to spot for pre-entertainment dining in La Jolla. Our table was ready on arrival. We had the pleasure, and good fortune, of having Ariana as our waitress. She is super friendly and attentive. We brought our own wine, a 2009 Chateau Giscours from the Margaux region, which she opened promptly to allow some breathing. We started with their signature Gougères au Comté (swiss cheese puffs) and their house salad. Both are delicious. The dressing on the salad is one of my favorites in any restaurant. For our entrees my wife had the Lobster Salad from the Appetizer section and I had the Duck Leg Confit. Both were superbly prepared and the amount of lobster on the salad was generous. A Lemon tart for desert for a perfect finish. Turns out we'll be back again next Saturday prior to another concert. Looking forward to a great meal.
