This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is exceptional. Each dish has an interesting little twist that sets it apart from traditional Asian cuisine. Not overwhelming, just an unexpected and delicious flavor or spice. The people there are fantastic. The ambiance is quaint but social and upbeat. Everybody I bring to this restaurant wants to come back.

This was our first time dining at Bites. We arrived at 6:35 for a 6:45 reservation, and they said our table wasn't ready (huh? there were several empty tables), and asked us to go to the bar. We went to the bar and within about 2 minutes ordered drinks. And a minute later, before the bartender could even mix the drink, the host came back and said our table was ready. The room was a bit noisy, filled with young and boisterous drinkers/diners...but the room ambiance was pleasant. I had a mixed drink called Deadly Nightshade, which came in a short glass with a giant (and I mean GIANT) ice cube that was so big it almost filled the short glass completely (not much room for the drink). The drink was tasty, but given the small amount of liquid in the glass seemed a bit pricey at $15. I searched all over the menu carefully and could not find any offerings with tofu instead of chicken or meat, which I thought unusual for an Asian restaurant. I finally figured out that the "vegetarian" menu was separate, and you had to ask for it. So I went and asked the host for it. Would have been easier if the host had asked us if we wanted to see a vegetarian/tofu menu when we first arrived. My husband ordered the Singapore noodles with shrimp from the regular menu, which he said was good. I ordered the Rama Noodles with Tofu from the veg menu. Well, unfortunately the peanut sauce tasted dry and gluey, like it had sat in a warming dish for a long time...it did not taste fresh. The broccoli had no sauce on them, they were bland and undercooked. The bussers hovered frequently, they asked a few times if we were done, which we weren't. I felt rushed to finish my dinner, and I'm not sure why because there were at least 6 tables near us that were empty and available for diners. All in all, a disappointing experience.

This was our 2nd visit and will be back. We made a reservation because it was Friday night an also after a Cubs game. The restaurant was not yet full, but there is a great happy hour from 4-6p, so we enjoyed sangria and apps, and also dinner and dessert. The Tempura Brownie and Matcha Ice Cream was a treat! The menu variety and food presentation are vast and beautiful. Every item is always delicious to look at and to eat.

Walked in out of the Clark Street noise and the room knew exactly what I needed—soft light, teak, and a playlist tuned for real conversation. I skip land protein; this kitchen doesn’t miss a beat. Basil‑cream mussels arrive in a cast‑iron pool of sake and Thai chili—I mop up every drop. Shrimp shumai follows, whiskey‑soy glaze throwing a friendly jab. Orange tofu proves crunch and nuance can coexist, while veggie fried rice keeps the carbs honest. A lychee‑basil martini ties the bow. Service anticipates, pricing behaves, and I leave already plotting the next excuse to return.
