Callie represents Chef Travis Swikard's debut solo project after spending a decade working alongside the esteemed Chef Daniel Boulud in New York City. The restaurant’s name, "Callie," comes from the Greek word "kallos," meaning "the most beautiful," and embodies its blend of Mediterranean cuisine with local ingredients and terroir, from sea to land from San Diego, Swikard's hometown. In 2022, Callie was acclaimed as one of America's top new restaurants by Esquire and Robb Report, and received both a Bib Gourmand and a Plate from the Michelin Guide. Callie is a dedicated supporter of Feeding San Diego, having contributed over 1 million meals to those in need in San Diego since its launch. Swikard is set to open his second restaurant in La Jolla in 2025.

From the OpenTable editors: Chef and San Diego native Travis Swikard is an alum of iconic restaurants like DANIEL, and that pedigree shines at this sophisticated Mediterranean spot named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2022. Feast on plates like lemon saffron linguine or harissa-grilled lamb chops, or go all-in on a five-course family-style tasting menu. Either way, a meal in the inviting space decked with blue tiles and lush greenery feels like a lively dinner party on every visit.

The dishes we ordered were absolutely phenomenal. The Uni with the jamón sounds clashing at first, but it was perfectly executed on the toasted bread. It brings back a distant memory of dining in Spain with the best tapas - but with San Diego prices of course! The lamb and mushroom dishes were a perfect combo along with the baguette bread and warm butter for a little mop job action. Highly recommend these dishes as your main. They were the star of the show. Don’t sleep on the Kanpachi! Goes perfect with the Txakolina!

Some dishes were fantastic and others were missing a lot of authenticity and flavor. Definitely not worth it for the price unfortunately. I was truly looking forward to this place for awhile, but it was a one time try for me.

The night was going fantastic, food was incredible as it always is and the service was fantastic, up until the mains. Then things started to get slow; which was fine, but when the desserts, (pudding and pavlova) were dropped on the table by the team (not our waiter) we dug right in, unknowingly eating gluten whom which my wife is celiac. Our server knew the entire night that everything was to be gluten free due to her allergy; he accommodated every request but I guess forgot this time. Really unfortunate, because once the busser came by to pickup the plates, we were told the halva was made with flour. We ended up rushing out of there as a result.

One of the best meals we’ve ever had. We can’t wait to be back. We did the Mediterranean feast, it was 5 courses. The first course was dip trip with fresh out the oven pita that I could have made a whole meal off of. The baba ganoush was incredible. My husband doesn’t usually like it but it was his favorite of the dips. The second course was a yellowtail with a mild spice level that paired well. The third course was a potato pasta? It was delicious. Sometimes the descriptions of the course were hard to hear and read off fast. The next course was a crusted halibut & then finally a lemon meringue with coconut bark. I kept thinking the portions may be too small especially since my husband can eat a lot. But we both left more than full. I did the wine pairing with the meal & there wasn’t one that I didn’t like. I struggled to keep up throughout the meal & wasn’t able to finish the last glass but thoroughly enjoyed the experience here. The service was excellent. We had Connor and Aiden but everyone was very attentive.
