   Made a reservation for my birthday. Everyone including myself loved it! Food and drinks are delicious. Atmosphere is really nice. We were all satisfied with what we had to eat. The steak is soooo good!

   The atmosphere was lovely and our server was attentive, if a bit busy, but the food was just so BLAND. Everything was under-seasoned and lacked that special something that you want when you are spending $20+ a dish. The salads were underdressed and 90% lettuce with all the goodies buried at the bottom. The short rib was well cooked, but under-seasoned and needed a sauce. It also felt like the mixed lettuce salad with a little oil on it on the side was a huge afterthought. The best thing we ate was the elote dip we had for an appetizer and even that needed acid so badly we asked for some limes. It just felt like boring uninspired spa food. Of all the food we tried in Austin, this was the most expensive and the biggest miss for us. I wouldn’t go back.

   With all the great options for restaurants in Austin, this would not be a place I’d return to. I think it’s just convenient to the hotel and nearby venues so it stays busy. Food was mediocre. Service was ok but not great.

   Overall I enjoy going to Caroline and have been a few times but was let down a little by the Valentine’s experience. We booked weeks in advance excited about the pre-fixe menu but when we got there they were out of the short rib option my partner intended on getting. They didn’t sub another meat option in but pointed out we could get something from the regular menu. We decided he would do that and I would get the salmon option on the pre-fixe at least. We were then told both of us had to get the pre-fixe or none could. Given that they had run out of one of the reasons we booked this restaurant in the first place, we we’re surprised they would insist on us both buying it when my partner couldn’t get what he wanted. We both went with other dishes and wished we had booked somewhere else for the occasion.

   Great service, great cocktails, and we really enjoyed the dessert. The apps were very good and the entrees were also very good.
