   I made reservations for two YYC Exp (booked specifically in the reservation).. or so we thought…We were poorly greeted at the door to be seated, YYC Exp menu card wasn’t even provided. We then talked to the server and asked if we could order the YYC Exp with the recommended beverage pairings.. she had no idea what we were talking about and walked away to check. She then ordered us one dinner to share? Unfortunately, there were no timely check backs so when we clued into what was happening we just wanted to finish and get out. Truly a one of a kind YYC experience… bummer!

   Not worth the trip. If this place wants to position themselves as a high end restaurant they have a LOT OF WORK TO DO…very disappointed.

   We visited for Happy Hour (M-F 2:00-5:00PM) which offers 50% off the entire drink menu, as well as half price on their charcuterie offerings. Using OpenTable doesn't guarantee you seating based on the choices offered as servers weren't allocated to that part of the dining room for the time of day. We ordered a couple of cocktails on arrival, both were nice (Old fashioned, and a Mafioso). Then ordered the featured board and added a couple things from the char menu. Everything tasted as it should, seemingly high quality meats and cheese but the presentation is lacking. I understand this establishment might be "understated" in this realm, but putting a charcuterie board together on a plain white plate, with little to no additional effort in presentation, falls short. I look forward to going back to try a couple of the dessert offerings as well, but this was a shorter visit for drinks and light snacks. Overall a good place for groups of 2-4 persons, but anything larger would struggle to stay connected based on the layout of the dining room. A welcome addition to the university district, especially with afternoon happy hour offerings.

   Service pleasant but does not live up to the standard expected of the price point and menu concept of this restaurant. Lots of overlooked details. We ordered a desert and was upsold on the latte. Server returns to serve the latte to them then tell us they are out of the desert. We are displeased because we wouldn’t have ordered the very bad, dog water latte. Server does nothing with our comment. This lack of guest-facing hospitality occurred throughout the meal: whether it was the lack of taste checks, having to ask for cutlery at each course or having to wait for a long time between service checks. We were disappointed with service. The food flavours were generally good: all on the heavy side of flavour. Salad was overdressed as salads usually are. Not impressed for a $45 entree price point.

   A nice experience by the fireplace. A fixed price offering was a good choice and a decent basic selection of wines and cocktails available. Got a bit noisy at times.

   I would recommend the brisket over the strip loin. Honestly the keg has much better steak. The carrots were excellent as were the marrow croquettes.
