About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
Chartier is a rustic, French-Canadian restaurant located in the heart of Beaumont, AB. The menu, created by Head Chef Tamara Solon, is an elevated take on rustic French-Canadian favourites; made with love, care, and extraordinary amounts of butter. Our food is for everyone. Not frilly and pretentious, just wholesome local ingredients that taste amazing and fill your belly.

Chartier was named the Best New Restaurant by Avenue Magazine in 2016, one of the top 10 Best New Restaurants in Alberta by the Globe and Mail, and made the long list for the Best New Restaurants in Canada by enRoute Magazine. Most recently, it was featured on Food Network Canada’s Big Food Bucket List starring John Catucci.

On the last Monday of every month, we welcome local ladies to Chartier from 7pm-9pm for a casual night of games, conversation, drinks, and snacks. One of our regulars approached us with the idea of hosting a women’s game night. She was eager to put together a recurring event that gave local ladies the chance to meet + connect…similar to card nights that her mom, Rhonda, used to participate in before she passed away. These card nights gave her mom something to look forward to, a community to connect with, and a great reason to leave house. Tickets are $15 each, which includes access to a charcuterie buffet bar (more like a hefty snack vs. a full meal, and other food and drinks will be available for purchase!) Games will be available on-site, and you’re welcome to bring a game of your choice too.

Chartier is typically a treat. I love this little French restaurant on the Main Street in Beaumont. It is like grandma’s living room. And the food is usually really good. But it does seem to be hit and miss. Had a sandwich there last night and the bagel was so stale. Had beef bourguignon last week, which was delicious, but they were a bit ( a lot) skimpy on the gravy. Their tourtiere is delicious. Would still recommend.

Always a treat to come out to eat here. The beans are a must and today I tried something new and was very happy with the risotto!

Everything was good and food was very tasty but I really think 2 small pieces of beef in the bourguignon and some mashed potatoes was very overpriced for what you’re getting.

We have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years, pre pandemic and post. The menu used to have a great dinner menu with a french flair, now its a glorified burger joint that serves an excellent breakfast. Dinner menu should have something other than a burger for a Sunday night entree special. My burger was oily greasy and not very good. Future visits will be for breakfast/brunch, sadly.

Ooof Alvin - that stings a bit. We're grateful that you joined us the other night, but disappointed that you weren't pleased with our menu. It's a shocking to be called a glorified burger joint when we only have 1 burger on our menu - with the rest of our entrees featuring items like beef bourguignon, tourtière, and a wild mushroom risotto. We've pivoted in some of our offerings to be more accessible to our guests, as the economic times have been incredibly challenging for both the restaurant industry and diners. Our focus is on French-Canadian comfort food vs. fine dining, and understand if that's not your jam. Regardless of whether we see you at brunch or dinner, we're grateful for your business....and will do our best to lick our wound from this wee jab ;) Sending love and light!
