James Beard Semi-Finalists Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin bring you Cocina Chiwas, a nouveau take on classic Chihuahuan cuisine. Located at the Northwest corner of Culdesac, a beautiful and passionate walkable community in Tempe, Arizona. Cocina Chiwas is a chef driven Mexican Restaurant with delicious food, cocktails and an intoxicating atmosphere.     Food, service and ambience were very nice. Seating outside on a cold, drizzly night was less than optimal. There were open tables inside during our entire visit and I had made every effort to reserve an inside table through Open Table. Next time will call to ensure that we are at an inside table.

    Slow to get seated even with a reservation. Service was slow to get there but helpful otherwise. Food was amazing. It’s loud even outdoors.

    The food is FIRE!!! Our server was so bad though. Comically bad. But would absolutely return and the rest of the staff was amazing!

    Great food! Only thing I would change is turn the heat up a little bit as it was pretty chilly inside and maybe put a more chill playlist on. Overall good food, friendly people. We will be back with warmer gear on

    Again a great meal with great service. The Rajas con Queso is a more traditional creamy presentation than the original chile con queso some past reviewers didn't like. It's a very tasty dish with a little warmth from the peppers, and sweetness from onions and corn. The Birria Quesadilla is the best deal in town, and the new Ribeye Aguachiile with blue corn tortillas is just the right size and flavor. A few quibbles: - No printed daily specials make it awkward to consider what to order. - Chips with Rajas looked store-bought, not the house tortillas fried and cracked I'd had before - Fabulous dishes from my very first visit (shrimp aguachile, parillada) are never available. Missing them!!
