Cocina de Autor offers a dining experience. More than a restaurant, it is a Grand Velas concept, with gastronomy led by Two-Michelin-Star Chef Sidney Schutte of the Netherlands. A culinary tour that reflects the culture and life on the peninsula, Cocina de Autor features multi-course tasting menus highlighting fresh produce, fine meats and local products found during Sidney’s foraging adventures throughout the region.
Guests are invited to begin the experience at the Autor Bar, which is an experience in and of itself. Enjoy the stunning design and a range of cocktails created using fresh ingredients.

Food was outstanding and Rene, our server was also very attentive and explained everything in detail. The scallop course and the corn velute was the best. We did get the wine pairing, which was $160 per person, so all in with tip it was around $1100. We thought the cost of the meal, with only 10 courses, was expensive as compared to other Michelins.

It was a wonderful experience. Each food plate and wine pairing exciting and surprising. Service by all phenomenal. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and they went out of their way to do something special. We dined outside. The music and surroundings were wonderful. We enjoyed the night away trying new foods, delicious wines and smiling the night away in happiness from a fantastic experience. Thank you for making it so special.

Autor should not have a Michelin star rating. The tasting menu sounds grand but the proteins were hard to find hidden in foam and sauces. Tasting menus should showcase the chef’s capability to transform proteins into a tasty work of art. Autor’s chefs fell way short of accomplishing that objective. As a result, the tasting menu is overpriced at US $330 per person. To add insult to injury, the bill purposefully conceals (we noticed the itemized bill didnt add to the total) a 10% surcharge for what they explained (only after calling the manager) as a “bonus for the kitchen workers”. Clearly they were attempting to hide a tip even though they denied it. Then they had the nerve to ask you to leave the customary tip of 15%. Bottom line, avoid Autor’s overpriced and underwhelming tasting menu.

Very difficult to understand the staff. Did not have several bottles of wine we ordered. Just not the star status expected.

Tough to rate this. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is great. The food is very good and there is a wine course but they just cannot create an affordable and interesting wine course in Mexico. So for $140 there is a Moet Chandon and then 7 interesting but generally unimpressive Mexican wines. The welcome cocktail and the scallop dish blew us away but otherwise we left a little underwhelmed.

The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was wonderful and the service for the most part was excellent. At the end of the meal ,the server had great difficulty processing my credit card on his machine. After a few minutes attempting to do it,he said the machine wasn't working correctly and he would have to get another one .He went off and when he came back,he said we would have to to move to another part of the restaurant for the machine to work.We tried this and it still didn't work. Then he said we would have to move to another part of the restaurant. The manager came to help and finally the machine worked. But,he said the card was declined.I know there was enough credit on the card.I had used it in other restaurants in the city and used it right after leaving this restaurant for an Uber .There was enough credit on the card. We finally used another card that went through, but the whole episode was a bad end to the meal .There were no apologies for the delay .I do not think the incident was handled well.It was not something that should happen at a Michelin starred restaurant. It left a bad aftertaste .

I cannot believe this restaurant received a Michelin star. The food at a nearby resort buffet was better. Terrible service and food. Do not waste your money here. In all honesty, this restaurant has single handedly made me lose faith in Michelin ratings in general.

I live in San Francisco and am a fine dining foodie - have been to several Michelin restaurants all over the world. Food and service at Cocina de Aurora are very, very good. Really enjoyed all the dishes and cocktails. On par with other amazing restaurants around the world. It is very pricey, especially considering it’s Mexico. But the quality did not disappoint. Our meal was $800 USD with tip (we drank a lot and got the 10 courses). The restaurant and ambiance are beautiful. It was our anniversary and they had a special dessert for us. I love chocolate and needed another bite, they immediately brought me more. Not sure what other reviewers were taking about service being off and flavors lacking — that was not our experience at all. We had a world class meal from start to finish.
