Nested in Uphams Corner, Dorchester, we're a lively and intimate 30-seat restaurant serving brunch on the weekend and dinner at night with a full bar and outdoor patio. Our food is a celebration of the ingredients and flavors of the African diaspora connected from Asia to the Americas — global comfort food. We are proudly Black-owned, immigrant-owned, and women-owned. We believe that food is a vital aspect of community building and we envision a place that is actively engaged in highlighting the culture, art, and history of our community.

- Patio dining: patio reservations are weather-dependent and may be canceled due to inclement weather. Our patios are partially covered protecting from light to moderate rain and light wind.

- Timing: dinner's last seating is at 8:45pm and brunch's last seating is at 1:30pm. Your table is reserved for 90 mins for parties of 1-5 guests and 2 hrs for parties of 6+ guests.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: This Dorchester gem's cross-cultural menu is unlike anything else in the region, and that's why it's already earned a five-star review in the Boston Globe and been named Boston Magazine's best new restaurant in 2023. The restaurant, led by managing partner Biplaw Rai and chef partner Kwasi Kwaa, is a nod to the rich contributions of immigrants to this country. Dishes embrace the ingredients and flavours of the African diaspora, which means you'll find West African-style suya beef with caramelised onions and spicy Ghanaian plantain preparation kelewele. Get in on the celebrations in the light and airy dining room or the greenery-lined patio in the back, all part of what was once a historic rest station in Upham's Corner.

In a 1959 speech to the West Indies Federation, the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Dr. Eric Williams famously said, "one from ten leaves nought". The intersections of solidarity and independence still reverberate through the Caribbean and the African diaspora today. The principle of ten from one leaves zero is at the heart of Ten to One rum, founded by Marc-Kwesi Farrell in 2019. A self proclaimed student of rum, the Trinidadian trailblazer is fast reclaiming the narrative that rum is only for cheap, easy Spring Break style consumption, crafting a series of blends that are reflective of the true heritage, labor, and culture of the Caribbean. Please join us for our third installment of Comfort Kitchen's dinner series, a powerful, intimate conversation, tasting, and celebration with Marc and friends, guided by cocktails and cuisine curated by Beverage Director Danameche Terron in partnership with Ten to One Caribbean Rum. Our communal table seating is limited, with two seatings at 5 and 7pm. Tickets include a pre-fixe menu based on Marc's Trini upbringing (yes, there will be doubles, bless), welcome cocktail, exclusive Ten to One rum tastings, and something special to take home. Dress code is for the culture...always.

I was so disappointed! After reading about it for a while I was cheering from the sidelines and could not wait to go. An almost complete let down. We went for brunch and I ordered the burger. It was probably one of the worst burgers I have had in years. It was tough, over seasoned to the point that I wondered if it was vegan. It should be called a meatball. It was so overcooked and hard. The fries were good and really liked the seasoning on them. The service was inattentive at best. There were four of us. Food came out with large intervals between one diner to the nexts. We ate in shifts. There were probably 4 or five things we had to keep asking for and the server made no attempt at even trying. I hope we just had an off experience but for $250- No I wont be back.

The food was amazing! We loved the first dish that came out (fried plantains), yet it still was our least favorite dish of the night because everything else was even better. Service was great - they checked in on us enough without being intrusive. My only complaint would be with the coursing of the dishes. We got our first appetizer, and then our entrees. The second appetizer was served next and then the side of braised greens. I would have preferred for both apps to have been served before the entrees.

Food is truly amazing. Noise is super loud, need sound absorption. Front desk fast, waitress pretty slow.

Too tight of a dining experience-it was difficult to get in and out of one's seat. Great mission. Good food.

I wanted to go for dinner but those reservations are hard to come by. The brunch menu offers delicious dishes from standard brunch fare to more exotic offerings featuring herbs and spices from around the world. Do yourself a favor and book a meal here!

Drinks were to die for! Decor was warm inviting yet minimalist. The space is small and exciting. Great vibes even better food. The spices in each dish make each like a trip to another country. Highly recommend the curry! To top it all off, the waitstaff were informed and engaging.

Delicious food great atmosphere. Amazing mocktail selection! The host gave us a helpful overview of the restaurant before sitting. I recommend getting a seat at the bar if you like to watch drinks and some food being prepared. It was great service and I enjoyed the comfortable high top seat but know it is a tight fit with six people at the small bar top. Can’t wait to go back!
