Wine Bar
  • Great for fine wines
  • Neighbourhood gem

There’s an exciting vinous surprise coming to Hampstead this October, and this one is set to be a corker! The legendary Cork & Bottle wine bar, situated in the heart of London’s Leicester Square was founded by the equally legendary Don Hewitson back in 1971, and remains an iconic venue for wine lovers around the world. Don’s reputation allowed some of the best growers to invite him in and give him access to some of the world’s most treasured wines – the type of wines that usually only find their way to a few lucky locals. Cork & Bottle is now run by Will Clayton with just the same philosophies, all under Don’s auspicious eye. The team recently opened a more modern spin-off of the Leicester Sq institution, situated in the heart of Paddington, and is now set to open a third site in London’s leafy Hampstead this October. An ideal spot for both lunch and dinner, or for casual drinks with seats set to surround the long bar, or even out in the charming and undeniably cosy wine garden.

Always seems very quiet. Nothing special in the menu. Extensive and expensive wines but the ambience does not lend itself to enjoyment of a good wine. They do have special offers. Good if you want a quiet chat. It seems odd that it is so quiet.

Nothing wrong with the food but the place is soulless. Very quiet for a Sunday afternoon. Better off using The Stag round the corner or even the Garden gate. Maybe it’s a bit more lively in the evenings.

Most enjoyable re-visit. Interesting menu. Tops for a great selection of starters (octopus, squid, sweet potato fries, etc) topped off with a nice bottle of wine. sound level at a good level to enjoy good conversation :)

Lovely food, and a great choice of well priced drinks are a good start. The lovely lady in charge was extremely helpful. Our waitress was good, although she did insist on picking up all our glasses by the top instead of the base every time she topped up our water etc - a quick lesson in hygiene needed there. But that was the only fault we could find, so a very nice experience in all.

Friendly and welcoming venue, busy but not crowded so you feel like you have enough space and noisy conversations don't overwhelm the space. I was very late for our reservation due to train problems but they kindly let my husband sit and wait for over an hour on a Friday night. Food was excellent with a good range, advice on the wine was helpful, and the cheese was amazing.

Cork and Bottle is my favourite place in Hampstead - manages to be tasteful and sophisticated, yet cosy with a very warm feel. Food is amazing and fantastic variety of wines. Also best place in Hampstead for a roast and the staff are always lovely and tentative
