Cousins NYC! A restaurant venture between two brothers, Zac and Felix Papadakis & their cousin George Forakis will showcase an American craft menu, but also let customers peer into the home kitchens their Greek mothers manned while their fathers worked in the family business.

The menu will touch many bases covering the global influences present in American cuisine--think pork belly and lobster risotto, beet and walnut salads, Branzino, pastas and finally, in house made desserts, gelato and ice creams. There will also be burgers and fries as well as a bar menu for snacking. As to their respective Greek mothers and their cooking, look for intriguing items including, individual fried spinach pies and chickpea stew to a clay-pot baked Greek pasticcio and a lemon soaked cornmeal cake.

Welcome addition to First Avene. Rather limited menu of diner style food at lunch but we were a large group and stayed a long time and waitress was excellent, so it suited us. Fish and chips and the bacon were overlooked, and fries were very bland, but spinach salad was good. Good to have a pretty place to sit for lunch or brunch, and not be rushed out.

I had the nightly special of the sole stuffed with lobster for $28 plus a glass of wine. The meal was delicious and an amazing value. Service was good and the restaurant overall was fairly quite; although, I typically prefer loud.

Came with a party of 5. That ended up being 6 of us. We were nicely greated and they rearranged some tables for us. I personally loved the beer and wine selection since I couldn't really eat much. But the rest of my friends seem to devour every single dish that we shared family style. All and all I would def come back for more.

Made a reservation on Opentable for brunch this past Saturday; when I arrived, there was a sign that the entire restaurant was closed for a private event. Went inside, but there was no hostess to be found; just a soccer mom who barked at me for intruding upon their party. I asked her if she had seen the hostess; she told me she wasn't the hostess; I lost some faith in humanity, and realized that my plans for brunch were a lost cause. 0/10 would not recommend

Glad to welcome Cousins to the neighborhood. The transformation of a coffee shop into a pleasant restaurant is commendable. Service was especially friendly. Food needs some tweaking.

While it looks like an upscale diner on the outside, it's not that on the inside. I had an early dinner so Cousins wasn't crowded. The service was excellent (only gave 4 stars as there weren't many other diners yet). The waiter recommended a red wine when he saw me checking out the red wines by the glass. Enjoyed the wine very much. The appetizer was just right: not so much that you can't enjoy dinner and the taste and presentation was great. The entree was very, very good. Didn't have room for dessert and/or coffee. Their bar menu looks very interesting and I'll probably hit Cousins for Happy Hour one of these days. Maybe a half an hour to an hour at the bar then off to the restaurant to try some other items on the menu. My only disappointment was that I'd been looking at their menu online. The menu in the restaurant was different--told them to update online--and apart from additions that didn't appeal to me and didn't seem to fit the restaurant (more diner-type food), they eliminated 2 items I was looking forward to trying. However, there is a large enough selection to keep me satisfied for quite some time.

Cousins is a great addition to a neighborhood with too few comfortable restaurants, serving traditional dishes with deft contemporary touches. Daytime attire is casual and sporty, at night diners may dress up a bit. This has rapidly become a popular UES outpost, so reserve for heavily trafficked times.

Terrible service. Ordered the fish special and was given a substitute fish without ever being told. Deserves to go out of business and it did!!!

I would like the owner to know that there needs to be better lighting within and without the restaurant. It was too dark to read our menus. Worse, though (for him) is that the restaurant appears closed from the outside because it is badly lit. I had to peer into the window to see if there were diners. My daughter's friend who lives in the neighborhood thought the restaurant hadn't opened yet because when she walked by it was dark. Food for thought (no pun intended). Pleasant European music playing softly in the background was a nice touch.
