Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.
The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of North America while offering many of the traditional Old World styles of Europe.
In October of 2023, The Dakota moved to its new location in Historic Downtown Covington...just a block from the iconic Southern Hotel.
The Dakota continues to set the mark for what people look for when they dine – well crafted food, detail-oriented service, plush surroundings, and genuine hospitality.

                                                                  One of the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. Whole fried reddish was stupendous. A little loud as we sat near the bar and a large group having a sit down dinner. Will be back soon.

                                                                  Dakota restaurant has excellent foods and drinks. We enjoyed the Dakota-75 martini, the groupers entree was delicious and the veal with 3 sauces was amazing. Overall, we had a great time celebrating our birthdays at this restaurant. Also our waiter did an amazing job introducing all the special items. Thanks Dakota for an amazing night!

                                                                  Our first time dining at the new location. We had an amazing experience. All of the food was wonderful, perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of salt. My appetizer comprised some of the best mussels I’ve ever eaten. And my scallops entree as well as my wife’s grouper special were superlative. Our server, Matthew, was knowledgeable, outgoing, and attentive. Will ask for him on our return. And the ambiance, wow! Perfect contemporary steel and glass vibe with some classic wood accents thrown in. Cannot recommend Dakota enough. Go. Eat. Enjoy.

                                                                  The Friday before Mardi Gras, most tables were full with happy, smiling diners. The service was personable and impeccable. The pan-seared ribeye with onion demi-glace was as a high-quality steak should taste—meaty and savory yet not overwhelmed by the demi-glace. The charbroiled oysters were perfect! We had two dozen. One with blue cheese and bacon, and the other with Parmesan and truffle oil, served with lemon wedges on rock salt and whole peppercorns. The honey-vanilla crème brûlée was well…I have no words but heavenly. It was served with warm chocolate chip cookies! We had a 2017 Gevry-Chambertin that was paired perfectly with our meal! A Memorable evening!
