  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for brunch
Dublin's most famous pub, certainly in a literary sense, with its Joycean associations. Always classy and fashionable. It's the original Dublin gastropub at over 100 years old.
Anybody who is familiar with Dublin pub food will be aware of Davy Byrne’s food reputation, in which seafood is the speciality.
If you visit the premises at lunchtime and evening time, you will witness the huge trade which is done in fresh Seafood, Wagyu Burgers and pub classics like Fish & Chips. There is also a full range of Salads and Sandwiches to compliment these and, as often as not, you can enjoy Oysters and Guinness.
The classic Gorgonzola sandwich with a glass of Burgundy as mentioned in Ulysses is available every day.

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate strollers/buggies indoors at Davy Byrnes but subject to availability, we can at our outside terraced area. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Delicious lunch of toasted sandwich special with a cup of soup for an extra 4 euro. Everything was very tasty and the soup was piping hot. Lovely attentive staff Looking forward to my next lunchtime visit.

We got lovely seating at the back. A little too close to our neighbours and until my friend arrived, I could hear their conversation. As a vegetarian who doesn’t like gnocchi, I had no choice in food. The service was excellent and staff were lovely. The music was too loud as the restaurant emptied around 3 - I asked that it be turned down, but don’t think that was possible.

Overall we had a nice evening, however this was some of the most appalling service I’ve experienced in a long time. We arrived at 7:30pm for our reservation, were ignored for 8 minutes until we approached a waitress who looked through us and said the host would sort us out. Shortly after, the same waitress cleared a table in the bar and sat us down. The host then came over and offered us a nicer booth at the back which we accepted. Baffling how a host can be absent at the door for 15+ minutes at peak time on a Saturday night. We then sat at the new table for 25 minutes with just a food menu and the water we’d brought with us. No one even came near us. Eventually, my husband had to chase someone down to take our order, and the waitress who came over couldn’t have been less interested, no apology, we asked for a wine menu and were asked if we wanted to order food there and then so we did. A wine menu appeared eventually, then another 15-20 minute wait…we ended up getting our food before our drinks. Ultimately, it took 55 minutes to get a glass of wine! The food was very good when it came, steak was perfectly cooked and the beef and Guinness pie was delicious. We had to chase for our side dish and this arrived once we’d eaten half the main course. We were then asked if we’d like to see a dessert menu, so we said yes. Another 10 minutes passed then the waitress returned and asked us if she’d ever brought the dessert menu…needless to say we didn’t have one. Fully appreciate this was a busy Saturday night but the lack of organisation and service was awful. Such a shame as it had been recommended by a local and we were really looking forward to trying it as we’re only in Dublin for two nights.

We all enjoyed the Steak and Guinness pie with a bottle of red wine. We were glad we booked as the restaurant was very busy on New Year’s Eve, which is a sign of a great restaurant. Recommended if you are visiting Dublin.
