In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

Excellent. I have been there 30 years ago and it was a delight to go again it was a very nice experience. Loved the sand dabs fish and they serve the best mash potatoes! The steak fries are to die for. My son said it was the best New York steak he ever had. He was turning 14 years old. He will always remember Dear John’s and his bday celebration. The cheese cake was delicious. And the wine list is exquisite. I just can’t wait to go back !

Excellent Christmas Eve 4 course meal. Dark room, understate but distinctive holiday decorations, and traditional Dear John setting made for great ambience.

consistently good service and food with experienced staff. cold night and we sat on patio but with the heaters is was comfortable and with an 8:00 reservation we were seated after the earlier rush so it was quiet.

This place is probably the WORST food in Culver City. What happened? If you book a table 48 hrs or less from when you want to come, you will not be able to cancel it or they keep your $25 per person deposit. The patio seating are tables on the parking lot. This is not a patio! A very stark contrast to the inside, which is actually very old school fun. We opted to seat at the bar, since the table at “the patio” was not an acceptable option. They could not do the ‘table side Caesar salad” at the bar, so brought us three plates of what looked and tasted like a pre-made packet Caesar salad. We also ordered a $45 dish which included caviar, crème fresh and pop tarts. Yes, any other restaurant would have served it exactly how you imagined, not this one… see the picture. The end result, we left the food, still paid the full bill and walked out. Oh yes, we also ordered two old fashioned - get a bottle of pre-mixed $19 bottle of Buleit old fashioned - it will be a lot better! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE PLAGUE!

Dear John's was nice enough to fulfill my request for a corner table. That was the start of this great dining experience. The food was oustanding, as was the service and cocktails. I had the Ossobuco (special for the night) and it was absolutely delicious!! This place is such a hidden gem that makes you feel like your in NYC.
