In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

    The food was great! We had Bougie Tots, Caesar salad (tossed at the table old school), Veal Chop (best we've ever had), Porterhouse, Sand Dabs, Shrimp Scampi, Scalloped Potatoes, Broccolini. We should have ordered the beef that had more marbling. Ours was just a little tough. The room is great. I w as expecting more noise. It was loud but the table was small & so we're all close & could hear each other just fine. It is really dark - but it's terrific atmosphere. We did use cell phones to read the menus. Our waiter Angel was the best.

    Truly outstanding food in a nice, old-style steakhouse setting. The only downside - significant for my wife and me since we're in an older generation - was that the noise level was over the top (lots of tables in a relatively small area probably contribute to the problem). Made it very difficult for my wife and me to have a normal conversation. If they could figure out a way to deal with the noise level, this place would be an undeniable five-star choice.

    Great dinner as always. Our favorite waiter, Geoffrey, took excellent care of us and the kitchen delivered as usual. Love it here. Even the valet, Allen, was attentive and friendly. Will come back again and again!

    Food was phenomenal, waiter was ok. Would still absolutely come back for the amazing food, but it was quite loud/hard to hear each other too
