About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for scenic views
  • Great for creative cocktails
Nestled high above LoHi on the fifth floor of 2930 Umatilla, El Five boasts spectacular, unobstructed views of the downtown Denver skyline. The menu is an homage to the Mediterranean and features small plates built on bold flavors found throughout the region: Spain, North Africa, the Middle East.

Inside, the space is understated and sensual, flanked by a large, open-air patio for sun-kissed Colorado nights. As the newest restaurant in the Edible Beats family, El Five celebrates the confluence of flavors, ideas and geographies made possible by a subtle shift in perspective.

We visited El Five for the first time during Denver restaurant week (Wednesday evening). It was busy! And our waitress said that it is usually busy. It was filled with diners like ourselves, older couples trying a new restaurant, but primarily catered to a young, upwardly mobile crowd. Despite how busy it was the service was terrific and the noise level was surprisingly fine. The meal began with an amuse bouche composed of quince jam, prosciutto and blue cheese on a slice of baguette, which, for my tastes, the quince jam made it a bit too sweet for me. As an appetizer my husband had the Lebanese garlic dip, a hummus like dish, and I had the Patatas Brava with chorizo (I did not notice the chorizo). For our mains, my husband had the pork loin which was tender and tasty; I had the sea bass. The sea bass was cooked appropriately (meaning it was not overcooked), however, when you are serving sea bass, the fish should speak for itself. In this case the sea bass had a hot/spicy coating that detracted from the meal rather than enhancing it. Desserts were lovely and we enjoyed a bottle of white wine from the Duoro region of Portugal; nice and light.

We had a great meal. We enjoyed the restraint week menu. Ambiance was very pleasant and not too loud. Bar service was exceptional. All in all a fun night.

The view of downtown Denver was beautiful.the food was interesting and unusual, but it took forever to get the food. It was an hour before our first bites arrived.

Enjoyed a terrific dinner here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Beautiful view of the city, excellent food. We had the prix fixe restaurant week menu, every dish was better than the next. Obviously a lot of time and care goes into the selection of ingredients and suppliers Deja was our server, she is very knowledgeable and helpful/ wish all servers were more like Deja !

Outstanding dinner! We took advantage of the Restaurant Week deal! Amazing appys…Lebanese garlic dip , and chicken croquettes were delicious! We had the mini paella and the sea bass which were just fantastic, the bursting with flavor! And the baklava and the morrocan date cake was delicious! We had the sav blanc by the glass. Perfect meal, amazing views. Three courses for $55, during Restaurant Week! What a fabulous night!! And service is just fabulous!

Food & ambiance were outstanding! We had a server who seemed really annoyed and detached and didn’t check in with us for ~15min after we finished our entrees. Other servers helped us order dessert and a drink and were super helpful!

We came here for Denver restaurant week last night and overall did not have a good experience at all. Our server was a middle aged woman with longer greyish hair, and her service was some of the worst I have ever had, it took her over 30 minutes to even take our order, she did not smile even once, had no personality, and rarely checked up on us. Food quality/taste was good, portions are very small, which is to be expected at a fine dining restaurant. Our reservation was at 7:15, we received our first course around 8:20/30. I understand that they were busy but an hour for a first course is insane, and it wasn’t until our server heard us complaining that she came by to let us know they were busy and food would take awhile (meanwhile the table across from us had about 3 plates of food in this time frame). Ambiance is great, the restaurant itself is beautiful and the view is incredible. Our bill total was $62 for restaurant week before tip, we left hungry, frustrated, and knowing we would not be coming back again. I personally wouldn’t waste your money here.

We sat at Chef’s counter and it was great for our first experience at El Five. All the food we had for restaurant week was amazing and the ambience/view of downtown added to the experience. Will be coming back again.
