ELDR is a welcome, new dining experience to the neighborhood. We visited two weeks after its formal opening. The char, smoke and service are core to the scheme... and this scheme is working. Our table, served family style, ordered an initial bread service, each listed vegetable, except for sunchokes, and three entrees: sable, sausage, and gnocchi. Best dish: the sable served over chard had a perfect char and sauce. Runner ups: the cabbage and also the butternut squash. The latter has a spicy kick. Regret: Not ordering the sunchokes. Oh well, there's a next time. Pro tip: Order a bread service to sop up the delightful sauces. We ordered a second service to do just that... and inspired a trend with the table next. Last, the dining chairs are super comfy. Get your friends/family organized and reserve a table.

Though tonight was only their second Friday open, I had higher expectations of this restaurant given its pedigree. The menu was unique compared to the other restaurants of this owner, but the food was not what I would expect for the price. My meat was nicely charred but on a soppy spetzle. I made a point of telling our server I did not like rare meat and to cook it medium. That did not get communicated to the cooking team; it was bloody and though they cooked it more, I couldn’t eat much. The appetizers included Jerusalem artichokes ( sunchokes) overcooked and unpeeled and we couldn’t eat them. Dips were very good as was the smoked scallop crude, what little there was for two. The cooking staff looks like at least two came from Raccolto which was a favorite of mine until the food went from excellent and carefully prepared to a mediocre preparation except for the pasta which eldr does not have except for the gnocchi tonight-also meh. Lastly, when diners arrive through the door directly in front of the room of tables, a blast of cold air hits diners in at least half of the tables facing the door. When the head chef reads out the orders, he faces the dining room and the orders are loud enough not only can the diners hear, you cannot converse over it. Perhaps he can turn away from facing dining room and yell to the oven. I won’t go here again and hopefully things will get ironed out. The waitstaff was very eager to the point of being quite repetitive about being back shortly. But were friendly and aimed to please.

Was very excited to try this new neighborhood restaurant. We were seated immediately (even though we were about 15 minutes early for our reservation). Service was prompt. Drinks may have taken a bit long but that wasn’t a problem. Food was delicious. Started with bread and dips, then shaved scallops (yum), and clams (sauce was divine - great for dipping your bread in). We then had our entrees which included ribeye for two (steak done perfectly with a nice crust), black cod, and the sausage with polenta. I wouldn’t have ordered that ordinarily but our waitress gave it a very special recommendation so we got it. Omg, it was delicious. I think it was my favorite. Drinks were great. Waitress was funny and friendly, and gave me a drink and dessert on the house for my birthday! We are happy that it will be open everyday and look forward to coming down for happy hour!

Every bite of every dish was phenomenal. We tried several dishes and drinks and loved everything. The sunchokes, potatoes, skewers, dips, and bread were all delicious. And the steak for 2 with chinichurri sauce and the huge sausage with grits were mindblowingly delicious. We tried 4 different cocktails and they were each so unique and wonderful. The staff were so kind and fun and it was really cool to sit at the counter and see all the cooking take place right there! We can’t wait to come back and excited for the tasting menu (not offered yet) to be offered soon so we can experience that!

Our dinner at Eldr. was fantastic. The first thing you notice is the beautiful open kitchen, a flaming grill, and a well stoked wood fire stove. We walked in and were warmly greeted, our heavy coats taken, and we were quickly shown to our little table for what amounted to an absolute feast. Our server, Chelsea, was the absolute picture of warmth and hospitality. When she found out my wife was pregnant, she immediately gave us a tour of the menu that would be suitable and made sure the bread and dips flew out of the kitchen to make sure we were fed before we even properly ordered (whitefish dip and honey butter were fantastic on their very fresh bread). She was attentive and great fun the whole meal despite catering to a really packed house. On to the main attraction: the food. Everything was delicious and delicate which was remarkable in it's way given the frame treatment. Clams in lemongrass and coconut milk really let the little morsels shine. Dungeness Crab piled high on house made tender gnocchi was a sublime bite. Pork sausage and cheesey grits were a wholesome warmer on a chilly Seattle night. And the sunchokes were charred, delicious and hot as a star. Peppermint cake made for a great seasonal finish. The wine list is well appointed, leaning somewhat Italian but I had a fantastic glass of Beaujolais. They're doing some interesting NA stuff including a delightful beet maple shrub soda. Cocktails are a nice mix of inventive and classic with a twist that I'll need to try another day. Pro tip: if you're not opposed to hearing others orders getting yelled out while you're eating, grab a seat at the counter for dinner and a show.
