   Greeted warmly by the oyster shucker, escorted by our dutiful server to the table where, unexpectedly, neighbours were seated. We were dined and wined to our complete satisfaction. Our server, having overheard a remark from our friend, presented us with complimentary glasses of “bubbly” to celebrate our anniversary. The service was excellent and we enjoyed our salad, main and dessert courses as they arrived in a timely fashion. The presentation was impeccable. We departed sated and happy and will return. Our only negative impression was the recorded music playing. The content was banal and the level varied throughout the evening, causing the volume of conversation to rise and fall accordingly, so talking with each other was sometimes difficult. Musicians, perhaps, could judge the room requirements, but why is music necessary? We gather to enjoy the company of each other, not to listen to an automated playlist.

   Chef’s choice was great and very filling. Our main was the tomahawk steak. I enjoy my steak rare so it could have been a little less cooked it came out med-rare. I didn’t specify so that’s on me. overall I enjoyed the relaxed no rush atmosphere and will definitely return and am looking forward to trying all the dishes. The homemade sourdough bread was so good we ordered extra. Next time I will take extra home so I can enjoy the dessert more.

   Great night here! It was busy but still seemed intimate. The staff were fantastic and we enjoyed our meals.

   My partner and I shared five appetizers as our meal and everything was tasty and brought out in a manner that the dishes complemented each other and were well paced.

   Flame & Smith has the feel of many other hipsterville restaurants similar to any of a number from Vancouver BC to Brooklyn NY , perhaps a little more spare in decor. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. I simply found the food to be disappointing. Being that I'm somewhat acquainted with menu engineering I would say that this restaurant is being a little stingy. I ordered the kale ceasar and wood fired sea bass from their menu. The kale was cut small enough to be comfortable to eat which is nice and the coddled egg on top was nicely done, but the 4 - 1.25 cm cubes of Scotch apple and 4-5 cranberries along with a parmesan which was a fine powder sparsely dusted were insufficient to actually add much to the flavor profile. There WAS however an over abundance of flaked salt (perhaps to mimic the saltiness of actual parm) Further I have never seen such a thin piece of Sea bass! the skin was nicely crisp but the mound of braised white vegetable (kim chi?) under it made it seem you were actually getting a decent filet. The abundance of Youzu ponzu and Korean hot sauce dotted about the plate was over powering. And lastly the Plum cobbler, which came in a ramekin was also skimpy, nicely browned batter top quite thin and about 1 1/2 tbs of sauce with 2 small lumps of plum. Too much focus on profit here. However the staff are doing a good job and are pleasant and professional. This is a management issue, sadly.

   Amazing dining experience. Wonderful atmosphere with exceptional service. The food was fantastic and presentation was unique. I would definitely recommend Flame and Smith!

   We got the dry aged steak and loved it. The carrots and fries were wonderful and the service was quite excellent.

    It was so nice to dine out and be able to easily hear our companions. Very relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go again.
