We were sat at a nice table by the window, and that's when it started to go downhill. Raising a smile from our granite faced waitress was impossible and he attitude seemed foreboding; so it proved. My vegetarian starter was adequate but my son's "grilled" squid was dried lumps of tasteless deep fried gunk. Paying £18 for scallops one might expect them to be succulent and meaty. None of our party knew scallops could be as small as a 5 pence piece but that's what arrived. It's tricky to ruin oysters and, to be fair, these were fine. During our starter the couple on the next table walked out half way through their main course. We didn't take the hint. Our mains varied from the pleasant fish of the day through some very pedestrian pasta to my wife's stone cold venison. The waitress offered to have it heated up. Really? The general lack of concern over patrons' experience was shocking. We left without having dessert. The manager had plenty of opportunity whist giving us our coats to ask us how our meal had been. He didn't. He knew he was overseeing a restaurant and kitchen devoid of leadership and control. We've been to Gee's a few times and its usually ok. Never again. Very, very ordinary.

Great food for vegetarians. The aubergine parmigiana is a must!!! Great portion size. Even when the restaurant is full the servers are always around to look after you. We’ve spent both of our birthdays with Gee’s this year and will be back many more times . Expect to pay a little more than some restaurants but it’s well worth it!

An average steak with average garnish. Good service.
    GeesResponded 6 days ago
Thank you for your review; I do sincerely apologise that the steak seemed just average, this is certainly not the usual standard we aim to achieve. We have passed on your feedback to our kitchen team and will revaluate our suppliers stock. Nevertheless, I am delighted to see that you enjoyed your service and we hope to welcome you back for a much more enjoyable experience. Kind Regards, Roxy - Restaurant Manager

The setting is gorgeous. So beautiful and well put together. The service was excellent. The food was a little underwhelming given its reputation. The toast was so overdone as to be nearly inedible which meant my dish was essentially a ball of cheese with some avacado. That said the flavours were lovely.

I ended up going on my own after the Keble College Christmas concert! My friend pulled out due to the weather. The staff looked after me well. The beetroot starter was delicious and I loved the monkfish main course. Superb glass of petit Chablis too. All in all a lovely evening despite being alone. Thank you Gees

We were a table of eight and everyone enjoyed the food they ordered. The service was very friendly. The parking information offered on the restaurant website was accurate and each couple found a parking space.
