   10/10 experience - this was my first time at Gitanes and it was great. Food was exceptional, service was lovely, and vibes were cozy & secluded. Ottawa gem!

   I was had a dear pal from Toronto visiting me in Ottawa for the first time, Both of us being foodies( he having extensive experience in high end hospitality) I had the daunting task of picking the perfect restaurant for our reunion dinner. And did I get it right on! Our experience ( my second, his first) from start to finish did not disappoint in the least. Starting with a warm welcome from Stephanie, to ending with a sublime chocolate dessert and digestive. the evening hit all the right notes beautifully. Amazing food, wine pairing( guided expertly by Stephanie for each course), ambience, service( courses were timed just right)- perfect! And my dinner companion was impressed- enough to inquire about purchasing a case of lovely Chablis and perhaps making another trip to Ottawa to dine at Gitanes!

   I would like to start by saying that I have never posted a review on any restaurant before but I feel compelled to provide one for Gitanes. Although the restaurant ambience and service is good the food is grossly overpriced, particularly the seafood tower which was lacking sufficient seafood for what you pay $140 for. Although others enjoyed their main course, I did not as the duck was chewy and tepid warm at best. I had high expectations but left disappointed. Fois gras, which barely resembled fois gras that I am accustomed too, was also a disappointment. Maybe my expectations were too high but the value for what you pay is questionable at best. I am disheartened that I am having to write this after paying close to $600 including tip for four people which I do not mind doing as I have dined in many Michelin started establishments but I was disappointed to say the least.

Your notes have been shared with the team so we can avoid this temperature issue in the future. Regarding your comments on value, it has been a constantly increasing period of inflation and managing costs is no easy feat. We also put great care into sourcing fresh and sustainable product from local farms and suppliers, which we highlight in our scratch kitchen. We believe the farming and fishing practices of our vendors gives much better product. We do hope to welcome you back in the future - should you choose to dine with us again I have left a note on your file so we can make special accommodation.

   It was my first time and it was amazing. Will be our go to place for guest speaker dinner. The only issue was that the table behind us were so extremely loud that we couldn't hear each other all night making it very difficult to have a conversation. This was bothersome all night.

   We had a fantastic diner , we were very fortunate to have had Andrew be our server, such a nice person , would recommend this restaurant to anyone that’s looking for a nice relaxing meal !

   La nourriture et le service était excellents. Le service était un peu trop rapide surtout pour l’entrée et le met principal, ce qui était un peu dommage. Rapport qualité / prix 5 étoiles. a must in Ottawa

   My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. The staff and owner were incredibly warm and genuine in making every effort to make us feel special and enjoy the occassion. Our waitress was exceptionally efficient, friendly knowledgeable and made excellent wine pairing suggestions. The tasting menu was really very innovative and an adventure for the senses. Portions were perfect. Flavours were exciting. Presentation was great. It became quite busy later on in the evening with a nice buzz, but quiet enough for us to have easy conversation. I throughly enjoyed this meal and will definitely be back.

   Perfect as always. The fries on our steak frites weren’t as hot/fresh as I’ve experienced in the past but they were lovely none the less.

    We enjoyed an early Saturday evening dinner. The oysters were delicious, the scallops and kingfish starters yummy. The steak/frites was done medium rare with skinny crisps fries just as they should be. All paired with wines that went wonderfully with the food (albeit they are pricey $$$).
