Golden Age Cinema & Bar is known as being the coolest underground movie theatre, or perhaps the only underground movie theatre, in Sydney and it’s also a fantastic spot to enjoy live music. On Friday & Saturday nights, the bar puts on free shows. It’s an eclectic line up that spans psyched-out surf rock groups, solo artists playing with dream pop and EP launches that experiment with lunging synths. Even if you don’t think the music is your jam, the bar is worth swinging by and you might just expand your repertoire.

Join host Alexei Toliopoulos (Total Reboot) for Trivia every Tuesday in the Golden Age Bar. It’s movie themed but you don’t need to have gone to film school to get quizzical. Entry is free but space is limited. Visit our website to book and check out what else Golden Age has to offer.

Loud, boisterous, our table had my reservation on it but a couple seated there I had to remove. Mocktails pre mixed and awful. Food unremarkable. Ordered popcorn to come with final drinks. It was cold and chewy. Sent it back, was not offered a refund. Bar staff distracted with each other dancing around behind the bar. I used to come here and found it elegant. Things have changed for the worse.

Love this bar. Did a bottle of bubbles before we headed to a restaurant for dinner. Bought some popcorn but it ended up being all unpopped kernals so showed the staff and they apologised and gave us a bag of chips to compensate. The staff are amazing and the venue is perfect for intimate get togethers or a date!

Hi great venue and staff didnt realise there was no food until 5pm. and our booking at 245... no prob we just ordered from upstair and bar were happy for us to eat at the table. Movie was great.

I booked a table on the day - when we arrived we were greeted with a problem, as there was a glitch in their booking system. Their was not table for us. There was no food on offer as the Chef was sick. So we just sat near the stairwell. The staff tried to help but they were limited. For me and my partner we heard good things about the venue and cleared time, we travelled quite a long distance to get to the venue and organised a baby sitter. So it was a disappointment.

I love the ambience in the Golden Age Bar and the bar food was very good (especially the Ortiz anchovies with delicious sourdough). As the cinema doesn’t have raked seating, our friends were unable to see the whole screen and read all the subtitles. We’ll be back occasionally to soak in the Art Deco ambience but not regularly as value for money isn’t as as good as other Arthouse cinema chains.

No air conditioning in the cinema made for an extremely uncomfortable experience. Never mind the fact that with covid, good air circulation is a must have for any venue.
