    I love Grotto. It's a Houston institution. I was a bit disappointed in this visit, however, as it appeared they were definitely understaffed for the amount of traffic in the restaurant. It was very busy and we made a reservation to have dinner prior to a show. While I saw our waiter hustling, you could tell they were assigned too many tables. A polite manager came to apologize for the wait for our drinks. The food was great and we made it in plenty of time for our show. Just wish the experience would've been better.

    We went when this place first opened and had a horrible experience. Long waits just total chaos. Years later decided to give it another try and it is better. However food is mediocre, and serving sizes are small, for the value not the greatest. Also, staff needs to improve the long wait times for placing orders and to get the check.

    We shared an salad and entree because we were headed to a Rockets game and did not want leftovers. Food and service were great.

    Rudest hostesses we have ever experienced. We waited close to 30 minutes for our reservation and were sat at a table that had been empty since we arrived. Meanwhile the two young ladies sat walkins.

    Our reservation was late (9 pm) after preview night at the International quilt festival. So thanks for staying open late so we didn’t have to rush thru preview night. The small plate meals were all delicious and the salads were divine! Super convenient in walking distance from the hotel. I could not have asked for more! Definitely recommend and will be back!

    We always enjoy dinner at the Grotto. Our favorite, of course, is the Italian Manhattan. We had a late dinner so had the best chopped salad!!
