I’ve been to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery a few times now. More than I probably should’ve, considering I’ve never walked out thinking it was a good experience. I went again tonight (after a friend begged me to give it another shot) and, unfortunately, got exactly what I expected. A cool looking spot with bad everything else. The braised short rib tacos I was excited about (still listed on their website) were no longer on the menu. So I settled for the braised short rib and polenta, thinking it’d be a hearty consolation prize. Unfortunately, not so much. For $34, I got a 2x2” square of flavorless meat over a tiny portion of cold, runny polenta. Portion aside, the dish looked decent enough on the plate, but as usual here, the food always looks way better than it taste. If this were a swanky, chef-driven restaurant, maybe that portion size would pass. But at a brewery slinging (albeit wildly overpriced) snack mix, wings, and pretzels? Come on. The Guinness gimmick only stretches so far. Eventually, you’ve gotta deliver. I’ll give credit where it’s due: our server, Romerio, was good—attentive and polite. No issues there. Bottom line: if you’re a die-hard beer culture lover, it might be worth grabbing a pint and snapping a pic with the harp just to check it off your list, however no true Chicagoan is shelling out that kind of cash on food this disappointing. Do yourself a favor and take the five-minute walk to just about any other spot in Fulton Market. You’ll be glad you did

The Guinness is top notch and we tried two other beers brewed on premise, both were very good. Food was a mixed bag, half the wings were over cooked, half were on the verge but more edible. Our server was friendly, but basically MIA. I had to call out their name to get them to refresh our drinks. I’d go back, but mostly for the Guinness.

Visited Guinness Brewery with three coworkers, and it was a fantastic experience! We started with perfectly poured pints of Guinness—smooth, creamy, and exactly as expected. We also shared a warm, soft pretzel that paired wonderfully with our drinks. For the main dishes, the French onion soup was rich and flavorful, and the Reuben sandwich hit all the right notes—savory, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. The food quality exceeded expectations, and the portions were just right. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. From start to finish, it was a great outing. Highly recommend Guinness Brewery for a laid-back yet elevated dining experience. We’ll definitely be back!
