Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant is the second restaurant from fine dining chef Curtis Stone (of Maude) and the first he’s opened with his brother Luke Stone. Gwen is both a European-style, chef-driven butcher shop and a restaurant that is redefining dining in LA, with a menu that calls on fire-based cooking techniques. Whether you’re picking up house-made charcuterie, prime and rare breed meats from the retail store, enjoying a feast in the dining room or relaxing with a bite and cocktail at the bar, Gwen delivers the highest standards of quality, taste and service.

On Wednesdays-Sundays, we offer Chef's Carte Blanche 5-course tasting menu for $130 per person (limited quantities available). The whole party must enjoy the tasting menu and wine pairings are available for $75 per person. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the restaurant at 323-946-7500.

    MICHELIN 1 Star

    2023

From the OpenTable editors: Part high-end butcher shop, part steakhouse, Gwen is the brainchild of Curtis Stone and his brother Luke Stone. The MICHELIN-Starred experience is a celebration of all things meat: The dramatic dining room is surrounded by glass-enclosed dry-age rooms and a central fire pit. Expect housemade charcuterie, pasta with bacon Bolognese, and impressive steaks like a 30-day aged Creekstone Farm ribeye.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Gwen offers an exquisite dining experience, blending fine dining sophistication with a butcher shop's warmth. "impeccable service" and "extraordinary food" make it a must-visit, particularly noted for its charcuterie board and dry-aged steak. However, some guests report inconsistent service and atmosphere. Overall, a memorable spot for special occasions.

I brought my wife here for her birthday and we had a really great evening despite our meal be underwhelming. The charcuterie board and oysters were excellent and service was phenomenal. The staff was well educated on the menu and engaging. The main course was very disappointing. Our 36oz dry aged ribeye was extremely chewy and under-cooked. The mushrooms were extremely salty as were the duck fat potatoes. I think we may have just gotten a bad cut of meat, it happens, but at that price point the expectation is very high. The staff was great and the GM sent my wife home with a chocolate brownie boxed and topped with a bow! I did express our disappointment to our waitress and she was gracious about hearing me out. They checked on us several times and each time I said everything was fine as I did not want to interrupt my wife and I's conversation with complaining so i did not address our issues until after they had taken the food away. I explained to our waitress that my complaint was not about money and we paid the bill in full despite not eating the main course. They did pack everything up for us to take with us but no manager stopped by to follow up nor did the chef after I submitted my complaint. I did not want my wife's birthday to be marred by complaints and perhaps I should have lodged my complaint sooner but as a GM myself (in a past life) I would have followed up with a customer that did not enjoy their experience in my restaurant. It shows your guests that you care very little. We live walking distance from this establishment and will not return.

Wagyu beef excellent, chicken liver pate excellent value for money appalling Portions tiny, said it was family style but absolutely not. Tiny portions of vegetables No greens at all to order The black truffle spaghetti was only 4 tiny bites altogether Fish was about 3-4 ounces not even enough for one person, though was delicious Rib eye had big chunks of fat No options for dietary restrictions Was told chocolate cake was gluten free, then found out it was not Altogether an extremely expensive meal, well over $200 per person with small amount of alcohol and everybody left hungry

Phenomenal food and service. Beautiful restaurant with nicely spaced tables. Expensive - but the quality of the ingredients, preparation, and flawless friendly service makes it worth the splurge.

Chef’s kisses all the way around. It was very enjoyable experience in every way and everyone there was great. Which made everything about it from the service, which was excellent, to the food that was heavenly. And even the water selections menu is a really nice touch. Well done!

My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary here. The staff was wonderful and helpful, the food was absolutely spectacular! We got the tasting menu and everything exceeded our expectations. This restaurant has definitely ruined any chance of us enjoying food from anywhere else.

The menu doesn’t describe the USDA grade on the steaks. I asked the server and he said all of the steaks are Prime so we ordered the 36 oz. ribeye dry aged 30 days and it wasn’t Prime. I’m pretty sure it’s USDA Choice and didn’t have 30 days age either. The whole meal was good but not great. The server was wonderful.
