Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

Popular dishes

Our noodles are custom made for us in Sapporo, Japan. The stock is made in-house and simmered for about 8 hours with high quality bones (chicken, beef, pork) along with kombu, onions, and garlic producing a clear broth that's delicate yet complex. All of the bowls (except the veggie) are topped with garlic, onions, bean sprouts, ground pork, chashu, nori, and scallions. The veggie comes with egg-free noodles and topped with assorted vegetables making it vegan friendly

Took a while to get our table. Ramen was very salty. The fish bao was pretty good, but had very little fish. The apps all came out at different times, which was awkward

It was a very bland and tasteless experience. We have had much better Raman for less. The service was overwhelmed with all the people. When Roman was delivered, I got the incorrect one with extra noodles and didn’t notice till midway through. Their amount of meat they give you was a good amount.

Great place to eat! Food was absolutely delicious. The place is a little small so we got reservations, but it was empty enough when they opened that we probably didn't need them.

It was our second visit! The experience was fantastic just like the first time. Ramen was yummy! And we were lucky to sit by the countertop to witness all the excitements and the heat was real! Highly recommended

Our wait staff were kind but not very attentive. Unfortunately this meant when we found hair in our broth there was no one to mention it to. The ramen also tasted like gasoline. It was off putting. We liked the bao appetizer.
