We booked sunday lunch, unfortunately when we arrived we were not on the list in the restaurant!! No problem there were plenty of tables available. The service was good the food was good , only slight downside was that on the menu the impression was that tea /coffee was included in the price , when we got the bill this was charged extra , the waitress said it was extra, so we paid, just leaves a nasty taste to the whole experience. Doesn't anyone from the management ever read their menus as a customer would???

We booked a table for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The place is now no longer the grand restaurant it was 50 years ago. Decor is shabby, the room too brightly lit. Coffee stains on the window ledge at the side of the table where we were sat. On the positive side, there was a pianist playing and that gave some atmosphere to the place. The food was good, at a reasonable price.

The restaurant is set in a beautiful building and we had a window table overlooking the bay and the mountains beyond. So far so good. We had looked at the a la carte menu before we went and we were looking forward to our meal. Unfortunately it was a Sunday and they only serve the Sunday lunch menu all day on a Sunday. It did not say that on the Opentable menu listing. But that was okay we like a roast dinner. The starters of fishcake and ham hock terrine were fine without being noticeably good. We both ordered leg of lamb for the main course. This was where it fell down for us. The lamb was not very tasty, it was fatty and gristly. The vegetables were just mangetout and red cabbage with a few new potatoes and a couple of small roast potatoes. So, it wasn't terrible but in a decent restaurant, when only serving five main courses I at least expect the main course to be tasty and good quality meat. I would also hope for a third alternative vegetable, particularly when serving red cabbage and mangetout, not everyone's choice for an accompaniment for a roast dinner. We both left feeling a bit let down.

The table I had booked well in advance was not ready for us and we were shown to a table for 4 (I booked for 5) and told it was all you had despite the restaurant being empty. I felt the food lacked imagination, the boiled potatoes were hard and there was very little sauce on any of our meals. The service was generally fine and the waitresses were very helpful, though a little inexperienced. We all really enjoyed the desserts. It was a special occasion for us - my son's graduation and although your hotel is lovely in an ideal location, we were disappointed with the food.
