This is the main restaurant for the Marriott hotel and the Ocean Club of the Marriott Vacation Club location on the Big Island. The setting is lovely -outdoors at 645 pm with light ocean breeze and nice table and our group was two adult couples. The food and drinks were very good . Prices were high but fair considering this is a resort in Hawaii. The draft beers were a good value in the large size. They do have happy hour and early week specials on Mondays- Wednesdays

We have New Year Day dinner with our kids and grandkids (all 13 of us). It’s a beautiful restaurant, ambience and service were great. Food like all the restaurants we ate at in Kona Waikoloa and Hapuna area were not something to write home about. Menu is limited. Guess food in Big Island restaurants are just not great! We did have a great time overall!

What a rip off. For $169 per person I expected a nice New Year’s Eve experience. By the time we sat down, they disassembled the band. The food was awful. Lobster tails? Yeah, they kinda look like lobster tails, but really inedible. Crab was tiny little legs. The prime rib was ok, but given in tiny slivers. Shame on you for charging that price. Was really terrible. Wine and drinks were good. Service was ok, but it’s a buffet so your server doesn’t do much. Never ever, stay away. Bad enough I should have asked for a refund. That kind of bad.

For $168 per person. Experience was nothing special. Luau would have been a better experience. Not very impressive for new years dinner. Have experience better. Live music stopped at 8 pm. It was just a buffet. Really nothing special. Will not recommend for new year eve. Look at the Luau. Same price better experience.

Let me start by saying that I worked in the restaurant industry for about 6 years, so I am VERY empathetic about what it takes to make a restaurant run. Let's me start with the positive things: * The staff was great. The hostess was friendly, the waiter and his support person were great. We felts attended to, without being too intrusive. Drink levels were always maintained, and anytime we needed anything (extra napkin, a fork, more water) we never had to wait more than a few seconds. * The variety of offerings in the buffet was amazing. All the items felt very high-end: The crab legs were a treat! I wish the oysters would have been a little larger, but they were tasty. The lamb was fantastic. The poke was wonderful. The shrimp was perfectly prepared. The desserts were ok, but not amazing. * The band that was playing was OVER THE TOP FANTASTIC, and what they were playing was PERFECT for the evening vibe. Now for my suggestions on what would have made the evening nicer: * ONE thing that would have made the evening more special could have been done at ZERO cost: The lighting felt like I was in a hospital cafeteria. Had the lights been a little lower, the evening would have taken on a more special ambiance. Maybe having REAL candles at the table would be a fire hazard, but artificial "tea lights" at the table would have added a magic touch. * Another thing that could have made a difference (that would be a VERY cheap fix) is to have had salt and pepper shakers on the table. I realize that food made in a buffet setting probably needs to be low-salt. I get that. You are preparing for the masses. Having salt and pepper on the table would allow a guest to adjust their meal to their own taste. I know in my own case salt take great food and makes it better. * Finally, there was nothing on our table that made us feel like we were celebrating New Year's Eve. Something as silly as a paper hat or party horn could have been done for pennies.

During our parents’ 50th wedding anniversary celebration, we visited the Marriott Vacation Club Resort - Calls. While the service was satisfactory and the location offered a picturesque view, I felt that the overall experience was underwhelming. Expectations for a Marriott Vacation Club Resort are typically elevated and spectacular, especially considering the pricing of the menu. Unfortunately, the culinary offerings fell short of expectations. The honey buttered rolls were stale, while the coconut shrimp was exceptional. The truffle fries were okay. The ahi tuna steak was arguably the best dish of the evening. Overall, the resort provided a suitable dining experience, but I am uncertain whether I would return unless faced with a compelling alternative.
