   I recently dined at Haywire at La Cantera and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an accommodating hostess who informed me that I could be seated early as soon as a table became available. In the meantime, she invited me to relax at the bar, which was a great option. The bartender was attentive and crafted some delightful drinks that set the tone for the evening. The atmosphere exudes a luxurious Texas vibe, with a beautifully designed dining area that showcases elegant decor and thoughtfully set tables. Shortly after being seated, our waiter approached, providing us with water and menus. He also offered us the wine menu to review, ensuring we had everything we needed before he stepped away. We decided to try the Chef's “Favorite 4,” and it did not disappoint. The fried green tomatoes and onion rings were perfectly breaded and paired wonderfully with their delicious sauce. The elk tacos were crunchy and cooked to perfection, while the queso blanco was rich, cheesy, and served with crisp, lightly salted tortilla chips. For our entrees, we ordered the Texas Plates. The Texas farm-raised redfish was expertly cooked and topped with crab and shrimp, all enhanced by their signature sauce. The frisée citrus salad was a refreshing complement—just the right balance without being overly citrusy. My husband indulged in what we both agreed was the best chicken-fried steak we’ve had in San Antonio. The flavorful breading held together beautifully, and the steak itself was not a frozen patty, which made all the difference. As the evening progressed, the restaurant dimmed the lights, creating an inviting ambiance. Our waiter was attentive, returning at the perfect moments for refills and even folding our napkins throughout dinner. Overall, we had an amazing time at Haywire, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience, whether for business or pleasure. You won’t regret visiting this gem!

   This was our second time going and it definitely makes the experience when staff is lacking. Our waitress was spread so thin. It took about 15 mins for us to get acknowledged after being seated so we ordered everything as soon as the waitress arrived. She continued to get more tables so others employees were dropping off our appetizers and meal. No refills on our drinks without flagging employees down. For a $150 tab for two, there should be better service for the overall experience.

   Our service was amazing ! Darius helped us choose drinks & entrees. He came around and checked on us often. Our food was delicious and we never waited long for our appetizer, drinks, main entree or dessert! We will be back again & bring our friends and family!

   This new restaurant still needs a bit of time to figure itself out. Is it fancy is it casual? Super fancy lighting and laminated menus? The western wear in the servers was also a bit much and seemed fake- our server tipped his hat thank you- this isn’t Yellowstone. Some food was great… wedge and redfish but sides were odd and didn’t match what they were served with… something to be said for traditional and not over done… weird lemon sauce on asparagus and odd citrus greens.
