We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur." After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant. Thanks to you, Here's Looking At You is back.

From the OpenTable editors: In the years since its 2016 debut, owner Lien Ta’s restaurant has established itself as a neighbourhood go-to, critical hit, and beloved third space for Angelenos. That's because HLAY – as locals call it – turns out inventive California-inspired and Asian-inflected small plates like uni panna cotta and spicy Caesar salad with sesame breadcrumbs alongside an excellent cocktail list and buzzy dining room that combine to feel like a dinner party every night.

Went for Dine LA and all I can say is, I hope they add the chicken wings and branzino to the permanent menu. Drinks were excellent as always!

Absolutely wonderful experience, the customer service is fantastic and thorough from the moment we walked in the door - everyone cheerful and informative about the drinks and food AND we went with the unexpected DINE LA menu which was a brilliant deal from Steak Tartar, Delicately Roasted Oysters with Trout Roe, Salad & Perfect Chicken Wings And then a whole Branzino with delicate wraps and sauce and radishes. We could not even try the yummy sounding desserts!!! Such a GREAT TIME, coming back for sure.

Our experience at Heres Looking At You was lovely! I was happy to support them especially during these wildfires when it's been tough on small business owners in general. Highlights included the nonalcoholic plum Pina limonada, which was pretty dynamic for a zero abv drink, the uni panna cotta which delivered on salinity and crunch, and the shrimp toast. We did enjoy the happy hour burger and baseball steak but found them a little bit on the saltier side. Overall it was great!

One of our favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. HLAY is like no other restaurant that we’ve been to. Every dish is amazing, they hit the umami notes with every dish. Our group was trying to pick out what was going on with the ingredients and their ability to trick your mind with a combination of tart, bitter, sweet, salt and fat. So many complex flavors that are well balanced and not overwhelming. This is a foodie’s paradise and you won’t be disappointed. Order everything and don’t forget to grab some delicious cocktails.
