About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
There are two dining spaces at Cotswold House, as well as an option to have lunch or dinner at our sister property The Noel Arms directly opposite.

The juxtaposition of our relaxed Cocktail Bar area and sophisticated Hidcote Brasserie & Grill restaurant creates a two-concept dining experience. Linked together, these spaces offer the best of both worlds.

The Chipping Campden Cocktail Bar offers an informal dining experience, this is where the bar is located so expect a livelier vibe, cocktail shakers, the gurgling espresso machine and locals coming and going. Dogs are welcome too.

Hidcote Brasserie & Grill is a little more sedentary, romantic even, and is located in a beautiful high ceilinged Regency room. The same menu is served in both spaces for dinner.

The Chipping Campden Cocktail Bar offers a wide range of wines by the glass, as well as an enviable Gin selection. A cocktail list is also on offer, with a choice of classics or something new to try.

We enjoyed a very nice meal for 2. Food was very good, just a slight issue with only mussels in a seafood Tagliatelle that was dealt with very well. My fillet steak was delicious. It's a beautiful building and definitely worth a night out. Our waiter, sorry I cannot remember his name, was delightful.

Limited menu and made worse by running out of food by 1pm. Mussels, burgers and for the table next to us the steaks had also run out. Basic principle to have food available. And I won’t start on the portion sizes or prices. Would have been better off in the pub over the road…

We had Afternoon Tea for 4 at The Cotswold House Hotel. There was a slight mix up with the booking as Open Table had allocated the Hidcote Brasserie instead of Afternoon Tea but the Hotel staff sorted things out smoothly and we were given a lovely table in a fabulous drawing room allocated for Afternoon Tea guests. The tea itself was really very good , one of the nicest we have had and far superior to say the Lygon Arms in Broadway in our view. Service was very good and discrete, perhaps a bit more checking when we had finished as we had to chase for the bill a couple of times but nothing major. Overall highly recommended , lovely ambience, beautiful setting, very good food and very good service

The bistro is a nice venue - service was good and food was tasty. Strangely towards the end of our meal, all members of staff had left so there was no-one present in the restaurant. We had to go to the kitchen to ask for someone to take a tea order. Good option in Chipping Campden.

Staff members were pleasant but the food took a long time to arrive even though they didn’t seem that busy. The dinner was well presented and tasty but pretty cold by the time it was served. There are far better options in the area.

The food and drinks for lunch were good and the service was friendly and reasonably efficient, just a little slow at times. They dealt well with one food allergy and overall, we were pleased to Kavenagh lunch there.

Having come up from a hick town in Sussex, my initial reaction was “ ooh this is a bit pricey “ but then I remembered that in fact I was in a very beautiful tourist location where the restaurant had to compete with numerous other top quality establishments. I chose the Popcorn Mussels with lemon alioli for my starter and was rewarded with a large ramekin full to the brim of perfectly juicy mussels that had been deep fried in a very thin beautifully seasoned coating and a lovely little dish of citrus touched alioli that proved to be more than enough for the amount of mussels. My main course choice was the venison suet pudding which was a good sized rustic parcel of just the right thickness suet pastry, packed full of amazingly moist melt in the mouth venison that had been cooked long and slow to take on all the flavours of the herbs and vegetables it had been cooked with, served with a very smooth and buttery mashed potato. For dessert I chose the most unusual thing on the menu, a parsnip creme brûlée and I have to say that it was one of the best brûlée’s that I have ever eaten. It was creamy and sweet with a lovely crunchy top but you were left with a mild taste of parsnip on your palate, which at first was a little confusing but as you work your way through the dish actually marries beautifully with the taste and texture of the creme and leaves you wanting more. Very different yet very tasty. It comes with a spiced macaron, possibly one of the fattest macarons I have ever seen thanks to the generous filling and definitely one of the most delicious. With very friendly servers that didn’t “hover” but knew how to play their role well, I have to say that this is a bistro that you should definitely check out if you are visiting the Cotswolds. My initial thoughts if you remember were that it was a bit pricey? No, it isn’t, it’s really good value for money as the food is first class.

We stayed at the hotel so ate here for two nights, with our dog. Lovely service. Lovely ambience. The starters on both nights were absolutely amazing. Well created and presented, with perfect balance of flavours. The first night we had the steak which was also fantastically cooked and presented. Had the burger the second night which was a little dry and underwhelming. My wife had the battered cod which had a lot of batter but not much fish. This was dealt with well by the team. Lots of other options on the menu. Would absolutely go back to try more starters! The staff were great!

Food left alot to be desired, it was a simple chicken ceasar salad, which had overwhelming and overpowering amounts of dressing. Taste was greasy and chuncky chips seem to have been fried in old oil and was not good either.
