Holdren’s Steaks & Seafood, located on State Street, serves up a delicious and diverse menu of seafood and steaks, where the portions are always generous and the prices always reasonable. Our surf and turf menu, including our favorite bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp or our USDA prime steaks that are charbroiled over a mesquite grill, is complimented by an extensive wine list, a healthy assortment of premium spirits, and a selection of signature drinks. Daily meals can be enjoyed in our cozy, and dark saloon-inspired dining room, or on our outdoor patio. The indoor dining room is adorned with brown leather booths, dark wood paneling, and funky artwork lining the exposed brick walls. Holdren’s has been voted as the best steakhouse multiple times by the Santa Barbara Independent’s Reader’s Poll and by the Santa Barbara News Press’ Reader’s Choice Awards.

They took us right to our table. They brought us hot bread and butter immediately water, and then proceeded to take our order and the food was prepared. Hot delicious and Service was excellent.

Service was a little slow at the start--a good 15 minutes before they took drink orders--but then they picked up the pace. Food was very good (filet mignon was cooked properly). One issue with the restaurant is that it is extremely packed (you feel like you're dining with the people at the next table) and movement between the tables is difficult. Perhaps not unrelatedly, it's also one of the loudest restaurants I've ever been in. OpenTable euphemistically uses the term "energetic" for noisy restaurants. There's nothing energetic about the noise level. It was very difficult to hear the 2 other people at my small table (my hearing is normal). On top of this, the bussers would periodically dump dirty dishes in the tub, which was only feet away from some dinners. So on top of the general noise, there was also the occasional crash of dishes into the tub. This is not the place to go for a quiet dinner out. The owners might want to rethink the tin ceiling tiles, much though it's a nice retro aesthetic.

Place was recommended by a local and I made reservations. When we got there, we still had to wait almost an hour to be seated. Since it was a steakhouse, expected a lot from the steaks. However, it was not cooked perfectly. Our steaks ended up drier than we wanted. Tuna tartar was excellent though

Holdrens is consistently excellent and the anniversary menu may be the best bargain in town. Great apple and walnut salad, terrific seafood chowder and perfectly cooked steaks. Filet medallions with peppercorn sauce is awesome. Loved the twice baked potato too. We ate outside so noise wasn’t an issue. Holdrens never disappoints.
