This is no longer the quality or atmosphere we were used to from Arleanna’s. We were optimistic with the rebrand that everything would be the same other than the name. Sadly, it wasn’t. I sent back the curry goat as my portion was almost entirely bones and fat. I replaced the entree with the oxtail stew. If I hadn’t already sent back one dish, I would have sent that back for being too salty to eat. The cocktail menu has been reduced significantly. And the joy we found in exploring their unique and delicious cocktails was replaced by a few choices that were just okay. I can’t recall if the restaurant showed sports on a large tv in the main dining/bar room previously, but there was some basketball on and guests seated at the bar were cheering periodically as things unfolded. The upscale atmosphere created by the luxe decor is squashed by the wanna-be sports bar scene. We left disappointed and will not be returning. What used to be a “must” for a lovely dinner in Kirkland is now a major miss. Happy Valentine’s celebration to me.

The service was great and atmosphere was nice. Parking garage directly below was convenient and easy to find. Food was pretty good but honestly a little pricey for what you get. The jerk wings had a great flavor but were a little fatty and not as crispy as I’d like. The oxtail stew was really good. The gumbo was a little too watery and a little underwhelming in terms of flavor. The coconut corn muffins tasted pretty good but were also a little bit dry. The plantain butter it came with was good.

Restaurant was out of first 3 bottles of wine that we tried to order. We ended up purchasing one that was not on the list that was good. Service was good but it was apparent that the restaurant was understaffed. The food was so so.

The jerk chicken and sweet plantains are extraordinary, and I lived in South Florida for over a decade.. Island Soul is an outstanding local option for Carribiean food.
